    Yeah both versions are good.

I prefer the original. I thought the explanation for the virus was very unique.

I haven't watched either in a long time, but I remember liking the original a smidge more because...maybe this is weird...I have a theory that, with horror, when it's in a language that isn't your base tongue, it bumps up the scary. Just because the atmosphere makes me feel like I'm out of place, like it would be hard to communicate in an emergency. Then my mind goes to how people must feel moving to another country...lots of feels over here today lol

Watched The Cell for the first time in at least 15 years, and fell in love with Jennifer Lopez all over again. That woman is a goddess.

The movie also holds up insanely well. The visuals are sumptuous, and the plotting is just enough to pull us from one visual feast to the next.

    Great stuff.

Banshee Chapter is real, real good. One of the best modern Lovecraft movies.

If Lovecraft / government conspiracy stuff interests you, check it out.

Such a unique take on the From Beyond story.

Thought this was the What If thread, and would've loved seeing that Banshee became part of the MCU.

    But, ope.

Yeah, surprisingly good for a B movie. I really liked Bone as well by the same director. Q is worth checking out as well but that's one you laugh at.

I've not seen either of those but I'm a big fan of The Stuff.

My Letterboxd and Twitter feeds are buzzing for Malignant. I had planned to watch it anyway, but this gives me hope that I'll enjoy it.

Yeah I'm dying to see it now that the reviews are saying it's great.

Is this the one that's apparently kind of giallo-ish?

This week we are watching horrors we have never seen before.

We have watched 2 real stinkers so far:

    Jack's Back
    Hell Fest

But a few promising titles coming up on the menu...

    The Empty Man
    Possessor
    Sputnik

I've heard nothing but positive on Possessor.

Possessor is 9/10 for me. Hands-down one of the best horrors I saw last year. It's Cronenberg's kid's movie, too, so you do want to pay attention to the details.

Huh I really liked Jack's Back. I think I'm a James Spader fan.

I like James Spader, and we had a lot of fun watching it, but it's a really bad movie. Very "TV movie of the week" feeling.

Hell Fest, on the other hand, was just bad.

Big fan of Possessor too. I bet it would be my top ten of last year on retrospect.

Wow, yeah, Possessor was pretty incredible.

Some of the most shocking violence I've seen since, maybe Bone Tomahawk. Brutal stuff.

Visually just astounding constantly. Whether it's the retro-futuristic tech, the decor and use of colour, or the wild body horror, it is always amazing to look at.

Performances were all great, and it packs one hell of a punch.

Definitely in my top 10 of the year.

Watched Banshee Chapter per your suggestion, Meg, and really enjoyed it.

    Edit:
8/10 from me. Really good use of audio to create dread and tension. None of the many jump-scares got me, but that's OK. I think the final "gotcha" jump in the movie felt a bit cheap, but given that I was so into it until then, I can forgive it.

Woo hoo! Glad you enjoyed it!

    I thought the idea that...

Ted Levine is always great, and seeing him play Hunter S.Thompson was a delight.

For me the best scare was when she was in the basement and noticed on the cameras that someone had come down after her

Curious who else subscribes to Shudder here, just to help me keep track. Anybody else catch Elvira's 40th Anniversary special that streamed last night? Four movies. Third one was one I had never seen, The City of the Dead from 1960. Gotta say how impressed I was by it. I wonder whether it had any influence on Mario Bava's Black Sunday and Hitchcock's Psycho, because they both used ideas that were also used here.
