I share Peng's feelings of being somewhat underwhelmed by Night of the Creeps. It's not bad but, for an '80s cult classic, I expected it to be gorier and more out there. I think I prefer Monster Squad from Dekker just because of the incredible FX by Stan Winston.
That's okay, we're all entitled to our own opinions.

    Even when they're WRONG.

ROTLD 3-A zombie Romeo and Juliet that sort of worked despite some really low budget FX. Not a bad flick, just not better than the first one.

Wendigo-the creature looked freaky and the monster elements are good. The human aspects were weak, though. I still liked it.

Has anyone seen Oz Perkin's lastest "Gretel & Hansel"?

Saw the trailer and it looked interesting.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

The Fury (1978) - At times it comes close to the silliness that slightly derails De Palma's previous Sisters and Obsession for me, but being based on a book seems to provide some general solid outline that grounds this more than those two. Having the screenwriter being the book's author seemingly leads to actual lived-in humor as well (a cop fretting over his hijacked car's condition; bored surveillance guys bantering while watching over the institute). And it proves that the writing doesn't need to be too over the top for De Palma to provide some of his usually delirious, stylized set-pieces, in which my two favorites are the car chase and (especially) the institute escape. Surprised the ending hasn't become as iconic as a similar scene from one particular Cronenberg film too. 7/10
    Midnight Run (1988) - 9
    The Smiling Lieutenant (1931) - 8.5
    The Adventures of Robinhood (1938) - 8
    Sisters (1973) - 6.5
    Shin Godzilla (2016) - 7.5

I loved The Fury. Sure it is goofy at times but that is part of its charm. Also I prefer it over Scanners.

Oooooh I adore that one. I saw it during a period of my life where getting high and watching Horror movies with a group of friends was a weekly activity.

I liked it. Check out the thread in the 2020 forum. Others were not so positive.

That sounds awesome. I don't have any in person friends who love horror movies as much as I do.

What's the forum's consensus on Italian giallo? I ask because of the small handful of giallos I've seen, I can never get a feel for the intent behind them. In the case of Deep Red, it starts really well with a brilliant opening shot and a well-edited murder scene. However, Goblin's score is awesome, granted, but it doesn't feel suspense to me. There are aesthetic choices that are creative, grand and striking but what's the aesthetic intent? Why should I care about these detectives if they don't have an arc? Am I overthinking this or is there something about the genre that's right in front of me but ends up flying over my head?

I love giallos but some are far more superior to others.

Not seen many giallos. Suspiria is a memorable movie, but even that has a sort of ramshackle veneer, like something the Italians were churning out, doing it as best as they could with possibly limited means. They did the same with the police genre in the 70's. Memorable movies, hell I recently bought two of them, but none are fit to lick the boots of the french connection. Early Jackie Chan were the same. Take away his stuntwork and what remains is pretty shabby.

Well, they are mood over plot to be sure, but I think Deep Red is good enough that it works even outside of its genre.

There are a handful that are masterful (Deep Red would be on that list) and fucking truckload that are terrible.

That is a good one. LetĂ*cia Román and John Saxon have solid chemistry in that flick.
