Aww I love Sleepy Hollow. Scared me in middle school, by high school it became one of my favorite horrors. I appreciate it even more now after years of seeing Hammer and Mario Bava films.

Sleepy Hollow is one of the most visually arresting movies ever made.

Sweeney Todd (aka, his best movie) is noticeably absent from both those lists. >.>

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Sleepy Hollow is beautiful and an amazing film and yeah, it gets even better as one gets more literate in classic Horror.

    Writing wise, yep.

But it is so visually sumptuous I freaking adore it. It’s like watching a gothic art exhibit for 2 hours.

Hahah. I'm happy the Lights Out lost the poll because it's actually got some good stuff in it. Pet Sematary was bad, but not worst of the decade bad. Off the top of my head, Wish Upon needs to be on here and that one with Olivia Wilde.

So glad I haven’t watched any of those.

Random question: What are some of the newer decent horror flicks people have seen? Been awhile since I fired one up.
“What we are dealing with here is a perfect engine, er... an eating machine. It's really a miracle of evolution. All this machine does is swim and eat and make little sharks and that's all.”

Maybe not "newer" but have you seen the British werewolves-on-a-train flick Howl?

I think it was 2015 or so. It's pretty darn good.

‘New to you’ works for me too. Haven’t seen that one.

Weirdly, the best I've seen recently have been French:

    - Revenge (2017)
    - Raw (2016)
    - Night Eats the World (2018)

Of those 3, I think you'd get a kick out of "Revenge," which starts out ugly and gets increasingly crazy, violent, and bloody as it goes on. "Raw" is disturbing and to date it's the only horror movie that has made me involuntarily gag. (Like, I had to concentrate and breathe deep through my nose to avoid the nausea.) "Night Eats the World" is like a lo-fi, chill version of "I am Legend," about a guy stuck in an apartment building during a zombie apocolypse & man he's just trying to figure shit out. "Raw" and "Night Eats the World" both lean more toward the arthouse than the grindhouse, though.

Also, I haven't seen it yet but I've heard great things about "Tigers are Not Afraid." Several pubs had it at the top of their "best ofs" last year. It's on Shudder now.

ETA: There's some great picks in Meg's Hidden Gems thread. If you haven't seen it, I'd heartily recommend "Let Sleeping Corpses Lie."

Not sure if this counts as a horror movie, but I got to see a 35mm print of The Keep at my local arthouse theater last night. The practical effects were awesome as are the production design and score, and I loved the dark, fantastical tone. However, the story aims to say something profound about fanaticism, extremism and evil as a construct, but was largely incoherent throughout, and the sound mix made a lot of the dialogue incomprehensible. It's unfortunate that was the result of studio meddling, because there's an effort to be something unique right from the opening frame. As someone who loves this kind of mind-bending epic sci-fi, I'm glad to have seen it in a theater. It's very much an amalgam of Legend, Prince of Darkness and Hellraiser and that was pretty cool.

I'm so jealous, Ivan. That movie is astoundingly hard to acquire or view.

As both a horror hound and a huge Michael Mann fan, I am super mega jealous.
