    1989 - 2009 Twenty Years Ago...

The Beastie Boy's Paul's Boutique and De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising were released...

    Wow.

Talk about life and genre changing albums.

It's incredible to think that I've been listening to these albums for 20 years.

Also - The Stone Roses s/t.

1989 is one of my favorite years for music.

In 1989, rap in Danish was a relatively new thing, with the first albyum released in 1988. In 1989, two fine Danish rap albums (Rockers By Choice - Opråb! Til Det Danske Folk and MC Einar - Den Nye Stil) were released. And while their sound may be a tad dated, I still listen to them to this day.

    Examples:
    Rockers By Choice - Engel
Rockers By Choice - Den Sikre Ruin

    MC Einar - Ahr Dér
"Listen man, it might be hard to understand, but
    Don't mourn the dead,
    Celebrate the life they gave"
    - Kashmir "Seraphina"

it seems for the last couple of eras that the last year in a decade has always been incredibly fruitful.

69: monster movie, contact, led zeppelin I, in the court of the crimson king, abbey road
79: unknown pleasures, london calling, entertainment!, metal box, fear of music, this heat
89: (aforementioned), "i", disintegration, ecstasy and wine, doolittle
99: i see a darkness, vision creation newsun, the soft bulletin, slow riot for new zero kanada ep, 69 love songs,

and so far this year is going fairly handsomely
THERE IS A FUTURE IN HISTORY

If It Takes a Nations of Millions.... had come out in '89 rather than '88, I could argue that '89 was the most important year of hip hop to date.

And good call with Disintegration, key.

I'm not a huge Galaxy 500 fan. I like them, but I prefer Luna.

What I'd like to say I was listening to in 1989:

    Pixies, Doolittle
Sugarcubes, Here Today, Tomorrow, Next Week!
    The B-52s, Cosmic Thing
Faith No More, The Real Thing
    Kate Bush, The Sensual World

What I was actually listening to in 1989:

    Madonna, Like a Prayer
    Janet Jackson, Rhythm Nation 1814
    Taylor Dayne, Can't Fight Fate
    White Lion, Big Game
Milli Vanilli, Girl You Know It's True

    The Demoniacs (Rollin, 1974) **
    First Man (Chazelle, 2018) ***
    A Star is Born (Cooper, 2018) ***
    A Simple Favor (Feig, 2018) **1/2
    Mandy (Cosmatos, 2018) **1/2
The Three Musketeers (Niblo, 1921) **
    Chi-Raq (Lee, 2015) ***1/2

I got into Faith No More not too long after '89. By '91 at least.

And Like a Prayer has some songs I still really love. "Oh Father", "Dear Jessie" and the title track.
The Night of the Hunted (Rollin, 1980) **1/2
    The Demoniacs (Rollin, 1974) **

It's a solid pop album, for sure.

Probably the last Madonna album I really like.

I liked Taylor Dayne back in the day. No idea if she'd hold up now, but she was catchy then.

I was likely listening to the Top Gun soundtrack and Phil Collins.
    Ant-Man and the Wasp - 5
    Hereditary - 7
    Won't You Be My Neighbor? - 7.5
    The Tale - 8
