I'd like to see both. McElwee's son, or perhaps some close relation I'm forgetting (the cineaste cousin?), is also a film buff and he paid for a private theatre at my college. It was really quite nice and showed a lot of great stuff. I went often. John McElwee was usually there most nights to introduce the film.

Yep, John McElwee is his film-loving second cousin. He looks strikingly like a 40-something Danny McBride.
