Movie Theater DiaryQuoting Donald Glover
I'm still going with Kaufman-esque joke. Maybe even Spinal Tap-ish joke, what now with this "documentary."
I... I have to hold out hope.

I'm not sure that Joaquin Phoenix as a poor man's Ali G is much more appealing than Joaquin Phoenix as a poor man's Vanilla Ice. Remarkable if he pulls it off though.

Sounds like he's just desperately trying to keep the project under wraps.
I mean come on.
If Letterman and Pheonix surreptitiously collaborated on that little segment, then hats off to Letterman for really selling his restrained indignation with the whole "I'll come to your house and chew gum" exchange. I was considering the possibility that this was just all part of Pheonix's elaborate pseudo-melt down but that particular exchange was convincingly uncomfortable.
I thought the whole thing was staged.Quoting Amnesiac (view post)
Yeah, this very well might be the case. If so, at least Letterman put some effort into lending the thing some credence.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)

I thought Letterman kind of broke the hoax a bit. A talk show host wouldn't really make fun of a guest the way he did if they didn't know beforehand that the guy's not being serious.Quoting Amnesiac (view post)

Yeah, maybe. Yet somehow I didn't see the attitude as being particularly out of the ordinary for someone like Letterman.Quoting number8 (view post)
Letterman has made fun of his guests numerous times. Or are we saying Crispin Glover's appearance was a staged act as well? Not to forget Letterman's bout with Harvey Pekar.

Or any of the trainwrecks that are Richard Simmons interviews.
Or any time Letterman gets the sense that his guest is boring and begins to lob veiled insults and generally be condescending.
It's kind of become Letterman's thing.
Yeah, Letterman insults as many as Leno blows.
He was def. going overboard a bit... but the audience was eating it up. And the gum comment solidified it.Quoting number8 (view post)
So fucking true.Quoting Ezee E (view post)
watched it. I found it convincing.
Yeah, that was Letterman being Letterman with an uncooperative guest. I didn't find anything suspicious. I still think it's a ruse by Phoenix, but I don't think Letterman was in on the gag.
