"Sirens" (Australia) and "Belle Epoque" (Spain), both from the early 1990s and both worth seeing.

"Wild Orchids" fits on double bill with "9 1/2 weeks" but it's a terrible movie.

If you're considering erotic thrillers, then "Cat People," "Body Heat," "Fatal Attraction," "Basic Instinct," "Jade," "Wild Things," and "Bound."

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

This list reminds me of Poison Ivy.

    I've never seen it!

(But somehow your post reminded me of another film: Blake Edward's "10" with Bo Derek. Also lol "Tarzan the Ape Man" with her, too.)

Also, I dunno if they fit in your scheme, Stalker, but there are scores of shitty teen-driven T&A movies from the 1980s, from the seriously creepy ("Private Tutor") to the fairly innocuous ("Fraternity Vacation") to the more mainstream ("Hardbodies," "Hotdog the Movie").

I've been thinking today about sex movies. Movies with 1. unsimulated sex and/or 2. sex as as a primary focus.
I think #1 makes for a very short list while the second parameter makes it massive.

    Some that haven't been mentioned:

    Last Tango in Paris
    Crash
    Y Tu Mamá También

Yeah, the parameters could probably be optimized, but you obviously get my drift because all three of these suggestions are home runs.

Irish with some great suggestions. I'd never heard of either Sirens or Belle Epoque but they both look good. I'll add them to the watch list. I think erotic thrillers don't really count, but it's hard to say movies like Basic Instinct or Femme Fatale aren't sex movies.

One parameter I didn't know I had but turns out to be crucial is the "elevated" part (which is obviously subjective, but still). There has to be an arthouse element. I'd much rather watch Stranger By the Lake with my grandma than American Pie, even though the former is far, far more explicit.

Also, I can't believe I forgot The Handmaiden.

Haven't seen Caligula, but that probably fits. I intentionally left out movies like Salo and Antichrist, despite the content, because they're the opposite of erotic.

    Yeaaaah great one.

I'm a huge fan of Femme Fatale as well but I hesitate to say sex is the primary focus of the film. There are like two big sexy scenes and the rest is more of a heist/thriller movie with De Palma's meta content.

I'm sure you're right. It's been a long time since I've seen it--I mainly just recall the one scene with the pool table.

Julia Leigh's Sleeping Beauty might qualify.

I dunno if you've seen it, but if you haven't I'd encourage you to check out Schrader's "Cat People" remake, thriller or no.

The premise is based on sex (the cat people only turn into cats after they copulate, and of course then immediately kill their lovers). The plot involves Malcom McDowell trying to seduce his own sister, played by Nastassja Kinski, because if they both turn into cats then it'll be fine, you see.

I don't think it's real. But people say before his death Kubrick intended those scenes to be much more explicit.

Well they finally released [what I believe to be his version?] uncut on blu-ray without those awful cgi people.

What?! I'm so ashamed I wasn't aware of this. I do not deserve my own avatar. Also, my dvd copy of EWS mysteriously disappeared out of my Kubrick collection, so it's time to pick up another one.

    3. Stranger by the Lake
    4. The Handmaiden
    5. Shortbus
    6. The Dreamers
    7. Love
    8. I Am Curious (Yellow)
    9. Y Tu Mama Tambien
    10. Sleeping Beauty
    11. Nymphomaniac
    12. Blue Is the Warmest Color
    13. Crash

In just fourteen movies, this list spans from some of my all-time favorite movies to some of my all-time least favorite movies. How about that.
