So Seberg is the latest in a particularly odd looking list of movies over the years where I've had the movie theater entirely to myself:

    Adrift
    Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk
    Carol
    Charlie's Angels (2019)
Frozen II (6th viewing, 7th viewing)
    Good Time
    Hugo
    Ingrid Goes West
    Jane Got A Gun
    Laggies
    The Lego Ninjago Movie
    Lion
    The Masked Saint
    Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping
    Race
    Risen
    Seberg
    Secret In Their Eyes
    Teen Spirit
    We Are Your Friends

Anyone else ever inadvertently had the movie theater entirely all to their own for a screening?

The only one that comes to mind is Hereditary. Great way to see it.

It's the best possible theater trip.

    Cold Mountain - F
    City Of God - A+

    May think of more later...

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

I think mine would just be Apichatpong, movie theaters, and long, long rows of food pics.
    Midnight Run (1988) - 9
    The Smiling Lieutenant (1931) - 8.5
    The Adventures of Robinhood (1938) - 8
    Sisters (1973) - 6.5
    Shin Godzilla (2016) - 7.5

Long, long, long rows. Your food transcends.

Thailand is automatically disqualified from being the Best Country in the World on account of it being full of Australians.
    Just because...
The Fabelmans (Steven Spielberg, 2022) mild
Petite maman (Céline Sciamma, 2021) mild
The Banshees of Inisherin (Martin McDonagh, 2022) mild

The last book I read was...
The Complete Short Stories by Mark Twain

The older I get, the more Renton was right. Eventually we wont be men and women and Australians and footballers...we'll all just be wankers. Bring it on.

Movies I have had the whole theater to myself/seen with friends where no one else was there:

Titan A.E. -with friends and my sister
Vertical Limit-dad, two friends and their dad
    Drive-Alone
It Follows-Alone, regret that decision haha (great flick, scared the crap out of me)
    Mother!-Alone
The Rider-alone, glad no one saw me cry when the horse died
Pet Semetary remake-alone on a weekend afternoon, got to yell "Get outta there!" at the screen

The first one is really good and funny. The second one is a mess. I kind of liked the 3rd and 4th movies even if both are uneven.

    Last couple of nights' viewings...

Princess Mononoke remains my favorite Miyazaki film. It has the storytelling maturity of any live action fantasy, and literally every single shot is perfectly framed and balanced. It is wild how gorgeous this movie is. I would put it up there with Fellowship of the Ring as one of the best fantasy films of all time.

Arrival is wonderful and just as moving the second time around. Great performances across the board, and one if my favorite concepts for an alien species in recent memory. Everything from the visual design, to their language, their ships, their technology...it's all so well thought out. And any aliens on earth movie that doesn't feature a set piece of American monumenta being blown up gets an extra letter grade from me.

    Facts!
    Real facts:

    1. Spirited Away > Laputa > Nausicaa > The Wind Rises > Porco Rossi > My Neighbor Totoro > Kiki's Delivery Service > Princess Mononoke
    2. LOTR: TTT > LOTR: FOTR

And Netflix here in Korea just got all the Miyasaki films, so time to rewatch to see if those rankings still stand.

Nausicaa doesn't make it on enough lists. Awesome film. And a lot of those 1. are so close in score for me its purely preference. 2. is true.

The Two Towers is probably the ultimate example of why second films always feel like the weakest of a trilogy. It starts and ends on cliffhangers, introduces new characters and stories that don't get resolution until the next film, and still doesn't resolve issues left open from the first.

FOTR is the perfect fantasy film, and hasn't been topped before or since its release.

In fact it's so perfect that it could have ended there.

That would've been some open ending.

I need to see Mononoke. For now I think Castle In The Sky is Miyasaki's best.

I disagree. Plotting is as much a cinematic craft as anything else, and it is just as valid to fault a film (or praise a film) for that as for any other component of a film. You are free, like anyone else, to prioritize/deprioritize certain components based on personal preference/interest but claiming that others are "misunderstanding the medium" for what they value just sounds like gatekeeping to me.
While it is true that I don't care that much about whatever plot holes/implausibilities may (or may not actually) exist in something like A Quiet Place, that's not because I enjoyed it on the whole, and am biased towards it as an individual film; it's because plot/premise logic never fundamentally break a film, because they never fundamentally make one. I mean, no one comes out of Raiders Of The Lost Ark saying "Hey, that movie was so exhilarating; the plot made so much sense!" No one comes out of Alien saying "That was so terrifying; the implied backstory behind the Xenomorphs was so logical!". No one comes out of The Godfather saying "That movie was so dramatic; the logistics of the plots against the Corleones and the Five Families were so un-confusing!". No, they come out of those movies praising them because their plots/premises are a means to an end to what truly makes movies great, which are the underlying feelings they ultimately leave us with, whether they be excitement, horror, dramatic effect, or something else, regardless of whatever holes (which exist in almost every movie ever made, regardless of their overall greatness) exist in them. But, it's supposed to make sense when people try to flip that logic around, and act like plot holes are all of a sudden a make-or-break deal for movies, and having too many of them can completely negate the underlying sensations that those films produce, the thing that actually determines whether a movie is good or not? I don't think so.

I dont know if its plotting or what, but I was annoyed by Quiet Place. Just go live by the waterfall, you dumbasses? Seems a lot better chance for survival than trying to live a silent life, especially with a deaf kid.
