I love The Lion King despite happily bashing the hell out of the British monarchy, which since TLK is based off of Shakespeare that's what being showcased. Disney is really good at making you ignore that sort of thing.

I really like the way this thread (d)evolved. I'd just like to add that during the days I spent in Italy I had to constantly pick up my jaw from the floor Tex Avery style because of the women I saw everywhere.

Annoyance: I've been watching some of the Disney Renaissance movies (The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast) on Blu-Ray and they've revised them to include the current Disney opening animation, the CGI castle. Beauty and the Beast even includes the Disney Animation Studios animation with Steamboat Willie that didn't debut until I believe Tangled was released. Whyyyy change the damn studio logos on thirty-year-old movies? They didn't add the CGI castle to older things like Cinderella or Robin Hood, why fuck with it on their more recent movies? I miss this guy:

Beautiful, clean image, gorgeous music cue... It's perfect! The CGI castle is extremely tacky, I find. And it really doesn't have the same tone-setting feel as the classic castle. I've seen these movies so many times through the years that my brain expects to hear/see the classic animation, like it's a part of the film itself. Booo.

If there's one thing the bible has taught us (and it hasn't), it's that the ONLY way to watch or own Disney animated films from before the year 2002, is a VHS tape in a white clamshell case.
