Rewatched The Thin Blue Line. So good. Very disciplined filmmaking. I tried to pay attention to the craft. Morris almost never starts dialogue with a talking head. He slowly segues into the interviews. No jump-cuts during talking heads. Always uses cutaways. Keeps tracking shots to a minimum, really emphasizes static camerawork. Probably the coolest thing is how he keeps returning to the same shot sequence for the murder scene, but he gradually pulls in elements and pulls out others. The long shadow of the approaching cop. The killer adjusting the rear view mirror. So sharply observed.
Newly announced February Criterion titles:
Blue is the Warmest Color
Breathless
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Foreign Correspondant
Jules and Jim
King of the Hill
Tess
Quite a good list. I'll definitely be getting Mr. Fox, Foreign, and King of the Hill.

My roommate at I were at Thor 2, and when he attacked a rock monster, I whispered, "Perhaps he can construct a rudimentary lathe!"
Only to find out that my roommate has never seen Galaxy Quest, so I made that happen. This was my first rewatch in a decade, and I still found it hilarious and occasionally rather emotional. It's one of those films that is much better than it has any right to be.
...and the milk's in me.
I rewatched the first Hunger Games movie since the new one is getting some stellar reviews. I expected to like it less, but I don't get the hate. It's a really solid movie.
Also, Frozen looks to be another Tangled where the trailers were misleading and godawful, but the final product is completely different.
Sure why not?

Morris works on an almost super-human level when it comes to capturing his subjects on film.Quoting Dead & Messed Up (view post)
I liked it quite a bit. My main complaint is that it felt too short. It's a film that could have been 30 minutes longer, just to flesh out characters and relationships.Quoting Watashi (view post)
It's a derivative horror-action-fantasy that's quite literally bloodless. I wouldn't have minded the inane premise or the shallow characters if it hasn't gone out of its way to pull its punches.Quoting Watashi (view post)
The last 5-10 minutes are particularly stupid.
It's better then the Marvel movies.
Hungers Games is such a horrible movie. WTF guys?
If you haven't read the book you would never know just how bad it really is.Quoting Winston* (view post)
The Hunger Games starts out with a promising, if derivative, universe, only to get worse and worse as it goes along, and it looks like shit.

I mean, it's not as good as the best Potter films, but it's a fine YA film. I don't get the shaky cam complaints. I don't even notice them.

The shaky cam is the least of that film's problems.

I haven't bothered to watch the first Hunger Games. I don't know why-it just seems like something I'd probably enjoy but there are so many more important films I should see first instead.
PS: This was my 2000th post in this thread. I wonder how many I have all time in the FDT, including RT. Probably a lot.

Albert Brooks 'Lost in America'... this film would have been better if the main characters had blown their brains out at the end.
