I won't defend it as being thematically fresh, just eminently enjoyable in a hits-from-the-Scorsese-songbook way, with enough moments of ingenuity to set it apart. eg Malik's first hit, sticking his tongue out at airport security, finding the sand in his shoe back in prison, the final scene with Cesar in the prison yard & the final shot... all Great Cinematic Moments. The slo-mo flying deer scene, not so much.

    Minnie & Moskowitz is quality.

So damn quotable. Blind date scene + Seymour's car-stalking of Minnie are two of the funniest scenes of JC's filmography.

I've had that on my hard drive for 73 years. You'd think I'd have watched it by now considering how much I love Cassavetes.

Yeah except you didn't because I recommended it to you and you'd much prefer to go watch some obscure bullshit for the sake of self-fellating.

Cassavetes takes a stab at the romcom with glorious results. I really need to wrap his filmography, only three left to go. Perhaps Too Late Blues up next.

That one, A Child is Waiting and Gloria left for me. Latter two mostly for completist purposes.

Probably not. I've loved everything besides Shadows. I'm not sure why I'm taking my time with Cassavetes.

It's good, but not in the same league as the others I've seen. It's too raw.

My weekend is going to be based on whether I can save anything off my old hard drive when I get my new computer tomorrow. Otherwise blank slate! Who knows what my future will bring?

Yeah, it's a milestone and whatnot, but it just pales next to the later films with his regular troupe .

Gloria is an interesting work. Ultimately I find it a bit uneven but I could see you really digging it. You've seen Big Trouble? How is that?

I was surprised at how little I responded to The Last Detail. I was so ready to be wowed, because you know, 70s! Ashby! Nicholson! But it was surprisingly slight and choppy. A reluctant meh.
