The fact that I haven't liked any of the movies I've seen lately has me wondering to what degree how much we enjoy a movie is based purely on our mood and under what conditions we see it (i.e., in theatres as opposed to on video). I know I can't watch a movie on my computer ever, and I suspect my generous opinion on The Secret in Their Eyes has something to do with my seeing it in a theatre in a city (Montreal) that I enjoy being in.

Sven and Balmakboor were interested, but are any of you interested in doing an "Interruptus" on a movie in which we'll take time out to analyze a movie from beginning to end, splitting it up throughout a month? I'd probably go for something that everyone probably owns just for availability sake.

    Movie suggestions?

It's surprising, I know. The film is great, by the way, but I'd be surprised if more than 5 people that post here have seen it, let alone own it.

Raiders has too. Maybe I under shot a bit.

EDIT: Having seen a 4 hour long Rivette film Winston*, I am almost tempted to say that it helps secure your cineaste status. Then again, since Beart is naked for almost the entire running time even the most Phillistinian of movie-goers can find reason to watch it.

Some piece of clothing to cover one's genitals?
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

With Netflix and torrents, that does seem like an unnecessary limitation. Personally, I'd find it more interesting to do a film that's not one of the most widely seen/discussed films at MatchCut. Regardless, I'd love to get in on this.

Fucking Netflix didn't send me the Criterion of The Man Who Fell to Earth. I hope what they did send is worth my time. I've seen the movie several times over the years and am still trying to figure out what I think of it. But after seeing and loving Performance and Walkabout recently -- not to mention Moon -- I thought the time was right to give it another go.

Yeah, I would have gone to the Palladium show, but it sold out.

Have you ever been to the Fox Theater? I've been to Glass House a couple times, which is tiny but cool, but I'm assuming the Fox is at least a little bit bigger. Either way, it should be a fun show.

Yessir. Well, I live in South Bay, but work just north of downtown (Glendale). You live there too?

Am I supposed to ignore the fact that it makes absolutely no sense that Charlton Heston and the apes speak the same language? Probably. But it seems to me to be such a huge, gaping hole in logic for a film that's trying to be smart. Not really sure why there's a cult for this one. It's a pretty silly film.

Haven't seen the Renoir, but I approve of love for Rugglesand Design even I'd swap the ratings.

I've been meaning to revisit Renoir. The only film of his that I've seen that I really liked was his early silent short, The Little Match Girl.

Oh man, Dr. Parnassus, I think I'm in love. I can't remember the last time a film had such a great sense of wonder, adventure, and imagination.

    Also, Tom Waits <3
