The message feels a bit mixed with regards to all the billionaires. The movie came out at the same time as the Occupy Wall Street movement, and both Bane and Selina Kyle make multiple mentions of redistributing wealth from the 1% down to "the people".

But none of the wealthy elites seem to have had much more than a minor inconvenience from the whole ordeal. Some of them lost their homes, maybe? For a short time? And maybe a few got the "exile" punishment?

But the film ends with "status quo" being...the rich are still rich, the poor are still poor.

The most poignant part of all of it is when Wayne makes the climb out of the pit, and drops the rope down to the others.

He was always a vigilante, but he became a hero when he paid it forward.

I feel like Nolan was trying to make a movie to appeal to the anti-1%, but he had a very hard time fighting off the desire to sympathize more deeply with them than the lower class

Short answer: No, it isn't possible. Modern exchanges can halt trading at will, and they most certainly would if armed men ever appeared on the floor. (Of course, this assumes the "Gotham Stock Exchange" operates the same way real world exchanges do.)

The whole sequence is wrong, and wrong in simple ways where it doesn't make sense on a fundamental level. Imagine if you had a scene about baseball, and some NY Yankees were standing around a soccer field congratulating each other over winning the last period because they scored more touchdowns. That's the level of wrong here.

Bane's heist is structured like an old-timey smash and grab straight out of a 1930s gangster film because they need Bruce to lose all his money through no fault of his own, make it clear Bane is responsible, and cause a boardroom coup at Wayne Enterprises while implicating Catwoman as a bonus. It needs to be visual because it's a movie and it needs to be action packed because it's Batman.

So it doesn't really matter that it's technically dumb because the whole thing does what the movie needs it to do.

I love TDR but yeah it does have some pretty notable issues. Also I spent the whole movie rooting for Bane.

IIRC Nolan said that he liked throwing in real world issues but wanted to leave it to the audience to sort out. So I think the rich/poor thing in the film is, to a degree, just a gloss. Like you say, there's not really a coherent idea behind it, except maybe the runner that class warfare is exploitable by authoritarians with ulterior motives. (Which maybe goes back to Neesons saying that they tried "economics" in Begins.)

It really is a sloppy movie, but it had more heart and pizzazz than the other two combined.

Alfred telling Bruce about the letter hits me in the feels every time.

I really like that little exchange with Kyle / Wayne.

    "Mr. Wayne?"
    "..."
"Sorry they took all your money."
    "...no, you're not."

Lord have mercy. I barely remembered this sequence was in the movie. It feels....low-energy? Like sort of halting and stumbling. I appreciate Nolan's desire to use real physical stuff on set, but I can't help but laugh a bit when the camera pulls back to film the batbike puttering along at a clip that barely laps a golf cart. This sequence should have verve and brio--the music certainly seems to think it does--but it just sorta canters along like an annoyed horse.

Also, I have to ask....what's the basis for the iconic "you're a big guy/for you" Bane meme? Is it that people don't understand the (admittedly marble-mouthed) lines are kinda cattycorner ("It would be very painful...for you to do that, so pls don't"), or that they do get it but are laughing at how awkward it sounds? I was always a little surprised it became a meme--I immediately heard it the first way when I saw the movie. Either way, it does come across as trying to sound ICONIQUE but just not quite making it.

How awkward it sounds. Bane's response "for you" is a plausible follow to "It would be extremely painful..." but immediately follows "You're a big guy," which makes it sound like he's diminishing how big he is. "You're a big guy" / "For you." By the time I processed what Bane was actually following up on, the scene had moved on.

I didn't feel like that Batpod scene was clunky or slow?

What's clunky and slow is the hand to hand stuff. Just doesn't work. Which is a shame because it's where Bane should have shone brightest.

Bane had a goal and a purpose. The Joker...was mostly just chaos.

Meh, i think that sequence works well... one of the few. But there are other times where you literally can't hear what he said.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Se7en is pretty bloodless too, which is remarkable for being a descent into total depravity.

I rented it and The Crow on co-workers recs back in the vhs days. Watched both. A friend came over later that evening and I was so shellshocked I rewatched both so he could see them too. Still adore both films.

I've only ever seen the theatrical cut, but I too thought it was great, especially the essentially perfect balance it found between in-depth procedural detail, and the more visceral thrills of the murder setpieces, and it's definitely the best efffort of Fincher's career to date, as far as I'm concerned.
