A Field in England will be playing at the Silent Movie Theater / Cinefamily from the 7th to the 13th.

    Eff to the fucking yes.
I think it is probably the best horror film in years, but the general reaction seems pretty mixed. The amount of freakish horror it can generate from so little is nothing short of miraculous. I need to see Kill List, but for sure Sightseers, while quite good, did not prepare me in any way for this one.

Gerrit Graham. Definitely one of a kind. Don't know if you ever watched The Critic, but he did the voice of Jay's father. So awesome.

Gerrit Graham is hilarious in Used Cars, TerrorVision and even C.H.U.D. II: Bud the Chud.

Spinal, if you haven't seen it, you should check out Gerrit Graham's turn as a black power radical in De Palma's Hi Mom. Equal parts disturbing and hilarious.
"We eventually managed to find them near Biskupin, where demonstrations of prehistoric farming are organized. These oxen couldn't be transported to anywhere else, so we had to built the entire studio around them. A scene that lasted twenty-something seconds took us a year and a half to prepare."

Only version I've seen, but I wouldn't cut any of it.

The TV version is worth seeing just for the scene in the attic.

I've seen TerrorVision two times and both times I was left stumped at how it got funded in the first place. Not because it's bad, but because it's completely batshit.

    - the incident would've occurred in a populated house in the midst of their suit after the Soon-Yi revelation
    - the 7-year-old's taped allegation appeared forced/coached/doctored
    - the 7-year-old's physical and psychiatric evaluations indicated no incident took place
    - the prosecutors who left it at "inconclusive" were later discredited
    - Allen's eldest adopted son later changed his mind and used the term "brainwashing" regarding Mia and the incident
    - Weide repeatedly states his belief that Dylan/Malone and Satchel/Ronan aren't "lying" and they truly believe what they're accusing Allen of
    - Mia's credibility is questionable in terms of the coached quality of the 7-year-old's accusation as well as the recent claim of Ronan's paternity, as well as her championing of Polanski and allowing her brother around her kids when he was later convicted of molestation
    - Woody's long-term marriage and two adoptions of girls further dilutes Mia's (and Qrazy's and the like's) perspective of any proclivities or criminal-level compulsions that detractors want him demonized for

As far as it being problematic/wrong/evil to "blame the victim" or be insensitive to "victims of molestation", that's absolutely true, however, the fact that no molestation was proven (or even prosecuted) means there isn't a victim of molestation in this case, there's a woman stating a claim she's been led to believe her entire life and her recent personal anecdotal evidence (which is twitter punchline fodder to her brother and mother) isn't being accepted by those who weigh it against the decades of contradicting evidence
(This piece will be my final word on this entire matter and no one will be responding on my behalf to any further comments on it by any party. Enough people have been hurt.)

I gave it a 76/100 but the more I think about it the more I like it a lot. And yes it is a completely weird and crazy film. Imagine if [

But are you able to watch Allen's films from here on out with a level of detachment from all this? I'm not sure I will. I think more than Polanski, Allen put himself literally and figuratively in his films and I'm not sure I can rewatch Annie Hall or Manhattan with the same "oh such a charmingly neurotic nebbish heeb!" vibe as before.

    Seriously. What a fucking mess.

As for enjoying his films, I'll just remind myself that Caravaggio and Rembrandt were assholes... but yeah, probably not the same.
