    Late Night TV Discussion Thread

Craig Ferguson's in reruns this week, which makes me sad.

John McCain did okay on Letterman, but it just underscored the absurdity of his unwillingness to subject himself or his running mate to questions. I'm interested to see how Letterman treats the rest of the campaign.

Good God! Did you see Richard Lewis on the October 15th Daily Show? He just screamed the entire time. It was amazing!

I'm surprised McCain went back on Letterman.

This was actually one of the more bizarre things I've ever seen on TV.
Wishful thinking, perhaps; but that is just another possible definition of the featherless biped.

Richard Lewis was pretty crazy on the Daily Show. I don't really know what was up with that.

I looked into his soul and figured out what was up with it. But I'm not telling.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Pretty sure the best thing about Obama taking office is that I'll get to hear less of Jon Stewart's Bush impression.

    What the motherfuck?

NBC is giving Leno a new show at 10 PM, with Conan's Tonight Show following him, to prevent Leno from going to another network. He's getting a much better deal than Conan's "promotion."

Great, so nothing's changed except they moved the schedule up a bit so fit in JIMMY FUCKING FALLON.

In Colorado, the news starts at 10, so I probably won't be missing a thing. Bummer, I wanted Conan right after the news.

I think that would actually put it at nine o'clock your time, E. Conan will still hit at 10:35 after what is probably going to be a very weird break for half an hour of local news.

That is, if I understand my TV scheduling correctly.

Late night talk show in prime time? Weird.

I still won't be watching Leno. Still I figured the network would screw over Conan to bow to the will of Leno. Lame.

Mon-Fri of Leno at 9 PM? Doubt it. Right now, that would take place of shows like ER, and whatever else is on at that timeslot.

It is taking the place of E.R.

That's exactly the idea. 10 PM EST (Which is 9 in Colorado) is Primetime. NBC is shaving 5 hours off their primetime block each week for Leno. Which means 5 less scripted shows on NBC in 2010. Why? Because Leno draws bigger ratings than all these primetime shows and a talk show costs a fraction of what it costs to produce an episode of Law & Order: SVU.

E.R. is ending, so that's not a problem on Thursdays. My guess is they're going to cancel My Own Worst Enemy, have Heroes lead directly to Leno on Mondays. Tuesdays and Wednesdays they're going to move Law & Orders to 9 PM and cancel whatever's on that timeslot. Same with Dateline on Friday.

EDIT: Linking an article works, too.

EDIT: I just looked it up online, about his late mother. That's sad. Wish I hadn't missed it.

Very sad. I liked what Chi said to him when he first came out. That was a nice moment.

His mother died Sycophant. It was his first show back on the air since her death.

I loved his speech about how late night talk show hosts are not actors. They're guests who come into our homes and try to entertain us, and it would be remiss for him to lie and hide behind gags and jokes.

Chi was real classy, but I was struck most when Ferguson couldn't hold back the tears and had to call for commercials.
