their latest single is ear-splittingly awful

but then again, i'm not really the target for a new stp album. same as a new soundgarden album

So I now have two copies of Rammstein's Mutter but neither of them play right in my old CD player though they play fine on the computer. I've got over 300 CDs and they all play fine except for this one. Seems like the pressing of the CD just doesn't jive with my player. The CD has this skipping noise throughout and it doesn't recognize the last few tracks. Any one have any experiences like this?
I've come the conclusion that I purchased bootleg CDs from both amazon and deepdiscount. I recall now that neither had that annoying sticker that seals it. I bought a third copy from a third party vendor (through amazon) - it has the sticker and plays just fine.

I'm not too into Soundgarden, but this new STP album is definitely a new sound for them. Which single are you talking about? You couldn't be talking about Take a Load Off, because that song is great, and the only other single from that album is Between the Lines, which is totally cool too.

STP were always my favorite of the "grunge" bands. They had the best melodies and hooks, and the most pop-sensibilities. Haven't heard the newest album, yet.

yeah it's between the lines. i think it was the lyrics that really made me hate it more than anything though

Has anyone else been listening to this Janelle Monae record? Really digging it these last few weeks.

Okay, so... I don't know if any of you are even Pat Benatar fans, let alone willing to read her memoir, but I need to get rid of five copies of her book that Harper Collins sent me. I dunno. I'm not really expecting a huge turnout here, so it would be nice if some of you help me out by joining this contest.

    Please?

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Man, this is nothing. You should hear what I did to get rid of a stack of Natalie Imbruglia CDs. There were assless chaps and flour involved.

I had no idea Morphine was such a good band.
One of my favorite ever. Still remember hearing the news that Mark Sandman had died. Broke my heart.

Yup, first listened to it online three times on Monday, then bought it the next day. Loving it more and more ever since. It holds onto a great balance of having those amazing stand-alone songs like "The Day" and the title track, but still having tons of room for their signature mood interludes to make everything pop out and hold together in a really gratifying, thematic way.

    My favourite since Phrenology.
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:

    Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
    Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
    Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
    Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
    What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
    Diva (Beineix, 1981)
    Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
    The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
    Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
    Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)

Wow - the Flaming Lips track on Dark Night of the Soul, from Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse, and David Lynch, is the best music they've made since The Soft Bulletin. It's amazing what some constraint and dynamic production can do.

That cd was the amazon mp3 deal of the day so I picked it up this morning for $3.99. Can't wait to listen to it.

Shit I need to hear that Dark Night of the Soul album. How much did Lynch contribute beyond the visual art?

Listening to Nirvana's live version of "Come as You Are" from their MTV unplugged. Great stuff. Grunge lives on emotionally for me.

Lynch did vocals on 2 tracks, and I think he offered "artistic direction" or something.

The only 2 tracks I don't care for are the ones with Black Francis and Iggy Pop. They just sound out of place, and I think they kind of spoil the mood and atmosphere of the album. Especially the Black Francis one - I'm really kind of tired of this guy.

There's not much of a reason too, as far as I can tell.

    Boring, mediocre rock.

Since I failed to make a Top 50 Songs list last year because it takes two damn long, I decided to do 25 now (cut off at albums I heard June 30th or before) and 25 more at the end of the year.

    Tracklist:

    1) LCD Soundsystem – “Home”
    2) Flying Lotus – “Do the Astral Plane”
    3) Liars – “I Still Can See An Outside World”
    4) Future Islands – “Long Flight”
    5) The Morning Benders – “Excuses”
    6) Menomena – “BOTE”
    7) Four Tet – “Sing”
    8) Joanna Newsom – “Good Intentions Paving Company”
    9) Holy Fuck – “Silva & Grimes”
    10) Sleigh Bells – “Crown On the Ground”
    11) Women – “Heat Distraction”
    12) The Roots – “Walk Alone”
    13) Frog Eyes – “Odetta’s War”
    14) Emeralds – “Genetic”
    15) The National – “Conversation 16”
    16) Eluvium – “Motion Makes Me Last”
    17) Beach House – “Real Love”
    18) Dosh – “Call the Kettle”
    19) Pantha Du Prince – “Lay In A Shimmer”
    20) Wolf Parade – “What Did My Lover Say? (It Always Had to Go This Way)”
    21) Broken Social Scene – “World Sick”
    22) Doyeq – “Eyelashes of Lanterns”
