Anyone here know anything about Swing music from the 40s and 50s? If so, what are some recommendations of artists or whatever?
The Big Four (In Order Of Awesomeness) Are:

    Chick Webb
    Count Basie
    Benny Goodman
    Artie Shaw

What do you guys use primarily for downloading music? I'm so rooted in the past that I still stick with Soulseek, which I've been using since it first debuted as an alternative to Napster/Kazaa back in the day.

Dang, the new Sun Kil Moon is awesome so far.

It's available from their website for only $8 as a digital download.

I also ordered a couple copies of the CD.

And I got my tx to see Mark Kozelek perform live in a couple of weeks.

April is going to be an awesome month.

Unlit Hallway, off the new Sun Kil Moon album, is awesome. Kozelek has always possessed an uncanny ability to invoke mood and atmosphere; he creates setting - time and place - through his music, and this song is a great example of this.

I still think the best song he's ever written is Michael, off the first Red House Painters album, but this song is among those that are close to that song's brilliance.

I don't care for Haron Blue on the new SKM album.

It's the first song that isn't awesome.

It could be a good song in a movie though, I can totally picture it in a dark western of some kind.

Soulseek is pretty good and I still use it occasionally, but the quality and speed of torrents is so much better, plus I enjoy the private tracker communities.

I use torrents for movies obviously, but not so much music. Where do you look for music torrents?

Here. Mininova and BTJunkie are definitely the best two to search in. It doesn't have a lot of the rare stuff you can only find on Soulseek or, I assume, private communities, but I've found a lot of albums there and they've almost always dl'ed pretty fast.

Horb, wherever you are, you'd be proud of me:

I just used almost all of this month's emusic downloads on Popul Vuh. Got about 6 albums worth. I always loved Fricke's work with Herzog, so it's wonderful to have some more.

    El Guincho - Alegranza
Times New Viking - Rip it Off
    Fleet Foxes - Ragged Wood
Headlights - Some Racing, Some Stopping
The Ruby Suns - Sea Lion
    High Places - 03/07-09/07
    Valet - Naked Acid
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Dig, Lazurus, Dig!!!
The Black Keys - Attack & Release
    Portishead - Third

...and several others I really like. It's been a solid year so far even if El Guincho is the only one that's really of top 5-10 of the year quality IMO.

Interesting, so El Guincho is all popular and stuff now? When I saw him live last year he didn't particularly revolt the masses. All hail Pitchfork, I guess. He's a nice guy.

    I'll say...

Experimental Aircraft - Third Transmission: Meet Me On Echo Echo Terrace
    Meshuggah - obZen
    The Goslings - Occasion
Earth - The Bees Made Honey In the Lion's Skull
    5ive - Hesperus
Silver Jews - Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea
Mt Eerie - Black Wooden Ceiling Opening
    Riddle of Steel - 1985
SM and the Jicks - Real Emotional Trash
    Mia Doi Todd - Gea
Thinking Machines - The Complete Record of Urban Archaeology
The Vera Violets - Dirty Rainbow

Still got a lot to listen, though.

I guess. It's Person Pitch for 2008, so I'm not sure why its popularity would be a surprise, although it hasn't exactly been lighting up the switchboards over here in the US either.

    Whoa, did this leak?
Wishful thinking, perhaps; but that is just another possible definition of the featherless biped.

Just listened to this album and I love it...I'd imagine some sort of super collaboration between Lightning Bolt, The Black Dice and No Age would sound something like this.
