You've read my spoilers at the Buffy thread, yes?

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Twilight is a required text in an Intro to Fiction course at Ohio State. Just another reason to hate that university.

They refer to it as THE Twilight over there, thank you very much.

Yes, but I don't accept them. Better living through denial.

    ...yikes.

I could understand using the book in a popular culture class, talking about phenomenons or something, but a literature class?

I have a question about Japanese culture.

Why do people from Japan refer to me as Steve-san? What is the san part?

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Those poor people. I feel sorry for the folks who have to take that class and pay good money and have Twilight forced upon them.

Without context, you can't necessarily know why it is a required reading. My youngest sister has to read it for a course on pop culture, where basically they are trying to make sense of it's baffling popularity, as well as analyze the antique social queues it encourages

It's the equivalent of Mr, and is unisex, and semi-formal. You would use this for people who you aren't well acquainted with, in a business setting, etc. More formal is sama. You would refer to someone important, such as the CEO of your company with their last name suffixed by sama.

Less formal is the suffix chan. Your friends would refer to you as Steve-chan. Even less formal than that is kun, used mainly for children. You would refer to your hypothetical kid Steve Jr. as Steve-kun.
Losing is like fertilizer: it stinks for a while, then you get used to it. (Tony, Hibbing)

Also, you would refer to your penis as Supa Chibi Steve.

So I take it it's similar to how the French will use "vous" ("you", plural) to refer to someone they respect and/or don't know, as opposed to "tu" ("you", singular).

"Well, if it's a crime to love one's country, then I'm guilty. And if it's a crime to steal a trillion dollars from our government and hand it over to communist Cuba, then I'm guilty of that too. And if it's a crime to bribe a jury, then so help me, I'll soon be guilty of that!"

Last night I dreamed that before BtVS, Whedon's first television show was a short-lived Canadian song-and-dance show (like Glee) based on Footloose.

So, in my dream, I found episodes of it on YouTube and watched, like, three. It was deliciously awful. I'm kind of sad it doesn't really exist.

Reminds me of a friend who passed out while wasted and they drew all over him. However, the idiots broke the boozing rule that stats "Don't fuck with people when they don't have their shoes on," which my friend was obeying. I imagine he'll get his revenge sooner or later.

The best Superbowl commercial by far were the Groupon "Whales" and "Free Tibet" ads. Darkly hilarious.

    Word.

Hoping there's enough outcry to make Deadspin change back.
