The mouse I saw in my house this morning has added a serious check in the "pro" column of my should-I-get-a-cat debate.
Apparently, the mice migrate inside when it's cold.
(And, no, it's not my mouse. I checked. My mouse was like, "What?" And I'm like, "Did you just run across the bathroom floor to scare me and then slip back down here into your cage?" and my mouse was like, "No, psycho." And I'm prone to believe her.)
...and the milk's in me.
Pros to getting a cat:Quoting Mara (view post)
1. They're awesome.
2. They mostly take care of themselves.
Cons:
1. Some meow a lot.
2. It will probably eat your pet mouse.

Bianca Mouse lives in a cat-proof cage.Quoting Qrazy (view post)
I had a pet mouse and a cat at the same time a few years ago. The mouse didn't mind, but the cat acted like the mouse was 24-HOUR CAT PORN. It would just sit and watch and watch and watch until I forcibly threw him out of my room.
Bianca Mouse is also about two years old and won't live much longer. She's been having a distressing thing recently where one ear bleeds a little. However, she's been clinging to life with all the might in her little mousy hands.

Funny -there was a mouse in our house this very morning as well. We were alerted to this fact by our cat Ophelia staring up at the coats in the stairwell. Sure enough, on a ledge above the coat hooks, quivering in fear, was a mouse.
I tried to corral the thing into a tupperware container which I would then carry outside to release the thing, but mousey-pants was having none of it. Eventually it lept off the ledge and into the kitchen, and of course, Ophie was off chasing the thing instantly. She caught it in the dining room, and commenced to playing with the thing, batting it around, taking it in her jaws for a bit before dropping it to bat around again, only to lose interest after a little while and walk away. Way to go there, killer.
The mouse escaped through a door we left open to the three-season-porch, which we promptly shut behind it.
Ophie's probably puking on my favorite chair as we speak.
Losing is like fertilizer: it stinks for a while, then you get used to it. (Tony, Hibbing)
Domesticated cats are useless and spoiled when it comes to catching mice. I had a mouse before, and I brought my neighbor's cat in to grab it because I knew exactly where it was but couldn't reach it or chase it out. I practically threw the cat right at the mouse and nothing. I had to use complex tactics involving mouse-catching glue...
Cats smell worse then dogs.

My cats are champions at catching flies, mice not so much. But they will leap 4 feet straight up, and pick a fly out of the air. It's awesome.
Quoting [ETM] (view post)Neither of these statements are remotely true, at least as a general rule.Quoting Ezee E (view post)
Well their litter boxes can smell, but that isn't the cat's fault, it's the owner's. I have a friend whose cat will catch rabbits. Rabbits. It is a domesticated house cat. I think it could manage mice okay.Quoting Derek (view post)
I've seen domestic cats grab a bat out of the air, kill countless mice, and destroy rabbits.
“What we are dealing with here is a perfect engine, er... an eating machine. It's really a miracle of evolution. All this machine does is swim and eat and make little sharks and that's all.”
Well, depends. I was talking about cats raised and living in urban areas, mainly buildings.
Yeah, my cats have lived in nothing other than apartments or homes, indoors at all times, and both of them would kill a mouse immediately if they saw one. They are bug-killing machines. Maybe it's just that Montenegrin cats suck.
Fortunately, our cat does not use a litter box. It goes outside. It does not particularly smell bad. I really don't like managing the poop of other living entities, so I don't think I would want a litter box cat.
It also sucks at catching mice.
