But---if you take the money, does that compromise you?

What if you take the money from someone you despise? Does it compromise you more?
It's a good question, and one that I can imagine contributed to their subsequent addiction issues, but I also find it unfair to judge naivete in hindsight. They were two unknown dudes who thought they were getting a record deal for their singing, and was then contractually forced to be lipsyncers instead, so I guess before we can answer your question, there is also the preceding question of, what do we mean by taking the money? Is it reasonable to expect people in those situations to, I dunno, meet their end of the deal without getting anything back in return? It really is pretty sad.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Listening to their song they did after the controversy, where they sang for real, I can't understand why they weren't allowed to sing in the first place, beyond the producer being an asshole. They were sufficiently talented to sing the Milli Vanilli stuff.
I don't know if it's planned, but it looks like he was able to block them from receiving royalties because technically they didn't work on any of the songs. To this day, Fab has not received a dime from any Milli Vanilli sales.

Not in the thread, but I looked it up after reading it: Farian did the same thing to that guy who lipsynced for Boney M after he quit the group. The guy fronted one of Europe's biggest disco bands at the time and yet he was on government welfare and moved in with his mom.

Boner M was part of Milli Vanilli?

I'd have gotten that wrong on Two Facts/One Lie.

One of my life's goals is to cover the entire Milli Vanilli album. I think it's a genuinely good pop-R&B album.

I absolutely fucking love this track.

    Way too many things.

But I don't believe in the term "guilty pleasure," or ironically liking something. I can defend everything I like in certain terms.

    Jim Steinman?

    But I'm not ashamed.

I just know that culturally I'm supposed to be.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Just wrote the following in an online job application:

"Given my experience working for companies both major and boutique, I can handle a diverse variety of corporate needs."

    And I officially hate myself.

    Just really feeling that self-loathing.

Eh its all corporate bullshit. Most people have to write shit like that. Its partly why I have not applied for another job in almost 6 years.

Video games are the only habit I occasionally feel ashamed about.

I was initially going to say Rihanna's music, but I don't know that I'm actually embarrassed by that.

    - Regressive, throwback cop shows that are a staple of network TV. I've seen and enjoyed every episode of "NCIS," thank you very much, and most of "Blue Bloods." I'm also watching "Bull" because it stars Michael Weatherly.

    - High fantasy when it's very badly done and takes itself very seriously. I was an avid watcher of "Legend of the Seeker" and "Merlin" (and was disappointed when "Seeker" was cancelled.)

I'm a sucker for crime/detective fiction and cop/courts shows as well. Maybe because I cover courts as a journalist. I don't find it that embarassing, though.
