Oh I know. The gift is cheap, but it's personalized, so there is thought put into it.

    Good job, good job.

While I, on the other hand, have a pearl necklace showing up this week. I'll probably stash it (in its box) in the glove box of the car, and ask her to get something out of it while we're going to dinner, or probably coming home. Its her 'wedding gift', so I decided to spend a few bucks....

You may now commence with the sexual innuendo!

EDIT: Oh, and bac0n.... One word of this to Jess at work and I will bitch slap you into the 1800's!

    *diabolical laughter*

My buddy's wife didn't know the sexual connotation of pearl necklace, and she kept talking about one, and everyone in the room is trying not to giggle like a school girl. It eventually spilled over into full out laughter and he had to explain to her about the other pearl necklaces.

Someone in the building (student flat) has been stealing roles of toilet paper!

I should be upset, but I'm just thankful I have entered an era of lesser tragedies.

    Independent as in self-employed?

If you work for a company, what do you claim on taxes? It's tough to owe money on taxes from my experiences with people my age, unless they are self-employed.

It's probably your second job that did you in. This time last year I was scrambling to come up with $1,000.

No, I'm not self-employed. It's something called Advance EIC payment which is what made me owe money.

I claimed a "2" on my taxes before the start of both of my jobs.

Claiming that much could have been part of it too.

Actually, this is a good tax filing.

When you get money back, this means that the government took too much of your money. They invested it throughout the year and earned interest on it. They made money off of you giving them too much every month.

When you owe you are actually keeping more of your money throughout the year with the chance of investing it your self. Had you invested this little bit of money and actually earned more than $130, you can have paid the government and made a little profit.

I always try to break even or owe a little bit, this way my money stays with me as long as possible before getting handed over to the government.

I think we end up paying about 10% of our income to the government in taxes. So if you can work it out to where you can keep some of this throughout the year and invest it, and then pay the IRS while also making a little profit, you win.

At least, this is my theory. I could be wrong.

    Any econ guys/gals here?

Speaking of the date, it's three years old. I'm not sure exactly how significant this is. Sounds kind of awesome.

A 3D printer is a printer that can "print" 3D objects.

In this particular case, they have designed a 3D printer that can actually make copies of it self.

It is a self replicating machine.

This article is actually pretty old, so I bet they've made significant improvements to the technology.

This is just another step towards the economic singularity. This is when things become so cheep to mass produce and copy that things no longer have any value at all.

I think I may have come across as a crazy fanboy in one of my classes yesterday. I'm not a quiet guy in class, I love making comments and throwing in my two cents, but in this particular class it's really full and everyone's really chatty, so I like to reel in and listen more.

But yesterday we watched a scene from Star Wars and when we were joking around, I couldn't resist myself.

First, the teacher chuckled at the "A New Hope" title, noting that when he was a kid it was just "Star Wars". This girl corrected him that it's always titled that way, and I immediately went "NO NO NO NO! No it's not, that's Lucas' bullshit!"

Then it turns out another girl in class has never seen any of the Star Wars and was baffled when Darth Vader was chokin' people.

"So, Darth Vader is Anakin Skywalker, right?"
"Yes," we all answered in unison.
"So why is he, like, a bad guy?"

Silence. You could hear a pin drop, and then I went "Oh geez..." and sighed loudly. Others told her to forget it and just watch the original trilogy.

    Was I asshole-ish, a little bit?

I would say the first girl was probably the worst one. If you aren't 100% sure, don't speak out loud in front of a bunch of people. You're just asking to be pwned.

I'm going to owe 22% of my income next year. Also, I used a 3D printer last week to make the housing for a wall climbing robot. It was neat. The robot doesn't work yet though.
Wishful thinking, perhaps; but that is just another possible definition of the featherless biped.

Last night I attempted to drink my problems away.

I drank a full 26er of scotch and I wasn't even feeling the alcohol.

So I smoked a joint the size of my middle finger, and that did the trick.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

    "Rick...it's a flamethrower."
