I have to admit I'm including both undergrad and grad school with that number. $40k of it was paid for by my employer. But I still had to pay tuition before the semester started, proved I got above a B at the end of the semester before I got reimbursemed.
Scene: Seoul, Korea. Out with a couple of mates, one wants to take us to meet some co-workers of his. Get there, meet them, conversation, find out a couple of them are Trump supporters. Okay, don’t experience that much, but we don’t need to talk politics, all good.
A couple of “wetbacks” and “niggers” later and I’ve stormed off and typing this on the subway. Way to confirm stereotypes, fuckheads.

Westerners in Asia are the worst. When I lived in Busan, if I walked by one of my regular restaurants and there were foreigners inside, I'd go to another restaurant. There's a lot of white privilege that comes with being a foreigner in Asia (and I benefited from it as much as anyone), which tends to reinforce a certain colonialist mindset a lot of westerners have that white people are just naturally superior to everyone else.

baby doll's post reminds me of the time where I walked past a couple of fratbro-type western backpackers in Bangkok, who snickered before asking in exaggeratedly broken English (for anyone who just watched last season of Bojack, imagine the scene where a family asked Diane for directions in Vietnam but with clear, intended condescension, jacked up by ten). I was very tired from class that day so I just snapped back, rather too unthinkingly in retrospect, "Speak better fucking English please". Luckily they didn't expect that so while they were taken aback I made a turn (this was near a market square in a mall) and disappeared.
