Yeah, me too. The extent to which his little experiment worked is both astonishing and depressing.

One of our pregnant alpacas gave birth today.

It happened so fast and easily. The baby just walked out of her. It was born at about 10:30 this morning, and by noon it was already nursing, and it has spent most of its day walking around, following its mom.

She is 19 pounds, and a beautiful, rich chocolate brown colour.

"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

    "Rick...it's a flamethrower."

There is a weird trend in my life where if I do a favor often enough, it becomes my job.

It makes me disinclined to do favors.

Also, I have been more than usually unhappy lately and I'm not sure what to do about that.

Make sure favors get returned in your favor. Vehemently remind them that it IS a favor too.

    Yeah, that was nice.

I'm thinking of adjusting my St. John's Wort dosage, though. Because I've just been in a funk for weeks that doesn't seem to be related to actual life events.

I'm going to be depressed when "Ah, the vagina lasso." is no longer at the top of the page. It makes me smile every time I open the thread.

A friend dropped me off at my house last night, and I just found out she was mugged at gunpoint when she got back to her house (less than two miles away.) There has also been a huge uptick in shootings this year. It's awful.

My friend gets an A+ for sass under pressure. From her FB:

just by myself walking from my car to the house when two teenagers came up behind me and two in front of me. I held up my mace when he then pointed his gun at me and told me he would shoot me if I sprayed it. So I did what he said. He took everyone except my crochet project...as he was walking away I yelled DON'T YOU WANT MY KNITTING? shaken but still a little snot.

I'm pretty sure my house has become haunted. For the past 5 days or so, every night from 10 p.m. until about 11:30 p.m., in one quadrant of our bedroom, there is a faint smell of burning hair. It's not there at any other time, nor can you smell it from any where else in the room or the house, and nothing we do changes this.

An old friend from high school just posted that she is going to be a grandmother. She is one year older than me.

    One year. Older. Than me.

She did have her daughter when she was 17, but pardon me while I freak out.

Not to Scully you, but it would take a lot more for "my house is haunted" to enter my mind.

I'm pretty sure I was exaggerating and jumping to an outlandish conclusion for comedic effect.

However, the unexplained smell of burning hair is a common haunt/ghost/phantom-smell phenomenon, so I don't completely rule it out.

Going to check my attic and crawlspace this weekend for a dead animal.

At least it's not the smell of scorched motor oil.

The burning hair smell suggests high carbon monoxide emissions, get a carbon monoxide detector.

    Have one in the room.

Also, a smoke detector in the room.

And checked the outlets for bad wiring, and turned off the mains to the house one night and the smell still appeared, right around 10.

Finding a job is proving to be really really difficult. I graduated with my bachelors degree in April and have applied to probably over 100 jobs in film/art/PR/Marketing in Montreal and have not even gotten a single interview. I am working my minimum wage receptionist job still, but it is even more demoralizing than ever since I am no longer considered a student and they are charging me full interest rates on all my loans. I really want to stay in Montreal and ideally eventually pursue my Masters, but it seems like such a distant possibility right now. I was avoiding doing an unpaid internship because I can barely afford it, and I know some extremely capable friends who did them and it really did not help them find any more luck. I know all I can do is keep applying but it's getting really discouraging.

I had an interview scheduled for last Thursday that I had been preparing for, then they called me Wednesday afternoon and told me they already found someone on Monday.

My favorite of our alpacas - Kit Kat, the "grandma" - died today.

Suddenly started having violent seizures this morning and had to be put down

Anyone here (Scar) have survival gear? I'm putting together a wish list (which will probably put me on some NSA watchlist) of stuff to buy over the next few months.

    http://amzn.com/w/2WPY336H2RCV1

    What else should I add?

Also (Scar), a .22 rifle should be good enough for hunting small game, right?
