Just out of curiosity, if you guys had to pick just one film to be the most representive, uh, representation for every rating you use on your personal scale, which ones would you choose? Personally, while I actually haven't used every rating on my scale, for the ones I have (from 5 to 10, because going lower than that would be getting into MST3K territory...):

    10: Schindler's List
    9.25: There Will Be Blood
    9: Drive
    8.75: The Road Warrior
    8.5: Collateral
8.25: Star Wars: The Last Jedi
8: Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol. 2
    7.75: Avengers: Age Of Ultron
    7.5: Reservoir Dogs
    7: American Gangster
    6.75: Hereditary
    6.5: The Avengers
6: Justice League (the theatrical version)
    5.5: Prometheus
5: Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice

    You?
I think my sub 5 movies would be the most interesting things on my list. Let me think about this for a bit.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

I wouldn't say these films are more (or less) representative of their respective ratings than any other film I've given the same rating, but Spielberg seems like a useful case study because his career is long and uneven enough to cover the full spectrum all by himself:

    Spicy: A.I. Artificial Intelligence
    Warm: Jaws
Mild: Catch Me If You Can
    Cold: Munich
    Frozen: The Terminal
    Just because...
The Fabelmans (Steven Spielberg, 2022) mild
Petite maman (Céline Sciamma, 2021) mild
The Banshees of Inisherin (Martin McDonagh, 2022) mild

The last book I read was...
The Complete Short Stories by Mark Twain

Having a feast day tomorrow, and Christmas with the family proper in a couple weeks. Got a nice gift card to our favorite expensive restaurant from my folks, and Scarette signed me up for the Metallica vinyl club again.

A.I. hurts my soul like few other films can.

It is an emotional horror show.

Is a movie labeled by where its shot, or by who the director is?

What I mean is, if a Korean director shoots a movie in China, is it considered a Korean film (because it would have all the director's choices) or a Chinese film? [obviously this sounds like a silly question, but its a set up to another]

Probably where the money came from to fund it, IMO.

Yes, E is right. It's all about who funds it.

If Wong Kar Wai makes a movie with an all Chinese cast, all done in Mandarin, and it takes place in China, but it is funded 100% by France, it's a French movie.

Wow. Just, wow. Some little shit pulled the fire drill at my daughter's school today, forcing the entire school out of the building to stand outside in the six degree below zero Fahrenheit weather for 5+ minutes while they called the Fire Dept and cleared the drill.

Yes, kids should learn how to deal with freezing cold sometimes.

Who me or Skitch? I think we were both just trying to be funny. Mine was at 10 pm on a Saturday night so probably had drunk some alcohol by then as well. No, you should never punch a 13 year old in the face - but I think bac0n was over-reacting. "stand outside in the six degree below zero Fahrenheit weather for 5+ minutes" doesn't sound like a big deal to me.

No you shouldn't punch a teenager in the face, but wanting to I'm good with. Queue up Bill Burr "No reason".

In the midst of moving (which is fun as always), tired, then neighbor cunt (I don't use this term loosely) fires up her giant truck with custom super loud mufflers and lets it idle for 45 min (this is routine) and magically the motivation to pack faster returns!

No worries, Yxlyx, I figured you were being silly, ergo my response. But those little punks were forcing my kids to stand out in the extreme cold without their coats or hats or any winter clothes at all for close to ten minutes. Another five minutes and we're talking frostbite. I can't abide that shit.

Update: After loud ass truck idled for an hour, they decided, fuck it, and turned it off. I believe these fuckers single handled lowered property values.

Its really shocking how good the cgi is in Iron Man. That came out in 2008, there is no excuse for shitty cgi in 2022.

Sometimes, when things are going really shittily (yes, that's an adverb), life will out of nowhere throw you a bone. Case in point, I was dealing with a huge kerfuffle at work today, mostly of my own doing, and low and behold, news comes down the pipe that the Apple streaming service is planning a Godzilla series based on the current Monsterverse.

    Ahhhh. serenity.

Got my booster yesterday. Last night it felt like an evil wizard cast a spell on me. My face and head were hot and throbbing with pain, rest of my body had the chills, I was in and out of sleep, and I had some terrifically weird dreams. Feeling better today though, but that was bizarre.
