Wow, today's hyperbole and a half pretty much sums up the last six years of my life. Anyone's who's ever had depression check it out. Hilarious in its harsh reality.

I read that. Sad and accurate. I haven't had a serious struggle with depression in a number of years, luckily, but I remember feeling like that. It was awful.Quoting Glass Co. (view post)

$2,300 to replace my hot water heater. I'm... just...
And, yes, I shopped around. That's the lowest I could find by at least $700.
The good news is that I would qualify for a tax credit in April.

No job change. I've been looking, but no finding.Quoting Mara (view post)
Wow. We just got one for my grandmother for $800. Is this just a Baltimore thing, or did we find an immaculate deal?Quoting Mara (view post)
P.S. I promise I'm not rubbing it in, just curious for the sake of a potential future purchase.

That's criminal. Was this the unit plus the labour?
Even so, I know at Lowe's (at least Lowe's Canada) it would have been, like, half that.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
Yeah, we got hers from Sears, and it was around $500 for the unit and around $800 after installation. I wasn't very involved in the process, which is why I don't know if my dad found a brilliant deal, but I didn't think hot water heaters were that expensive.
It's the unit plus labor.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
The s.o.b. unit that I'm replacing is tankless, which is a whole problem. The units are more expensive, and the labor is pretty intense. (Even replacing a tankless with a tankless, they have to completely change out a number of physical and electrical components. Plus, most plumbers aren't experienced with tankless, so you have to find someone qualified.) I can't switch to a tank unit because there literally isn't room for one in my house.
The stupid thing hasn't worked since I moved in, but I've been delaying replacing it because I was concerned about the cost. I've had it serviced twice, which helped but it's never worked consistently. Now some of the parts are breaking down and I'm not putting another band-aid on it. It has to go.
...and the milk's in me.
That sucks, Mara. Make yourself feel better by taking a nice hot bath every night for a year after shelling out that money.
So I wanted to mention, I was at costco yesterday when I thought I saw a girl who was my first crush ever. I hadn't seen her in like 10 years so it was a bit surprising. She had a husband and two kids which wasn't too surprising but she looked almost exactly the same as she did the last time I saw her. I didn't go up to say hi, so then I went home and went on facebook to look her up and come to find out she is the lead singer in one of those hokey cover bands that play songs like Taking Care of Business and Living on a Prayer for random parties.
I keep giving myself pep talks like this. My current hot water heater is so inconsistent and difficult that I never even try to get it to work for anything except showers, so I've been washing my clothes and dishes in cold water. Especially without a dishwasher, this probably isn't too hygienic. So, there's that advantage.Quoting Kurosawa Fan (view post)
It just sets my budget back about four months. Grr.
...and the milk's in me.
Awhile back I thought about switching to tankless. I wasn't sold on it, and I'm definitely not sold on it now.
