Put a down payment and signed up for StarLink internet. Supposed to come to my area later this year.
It will be $800 to setup, but then $130/month for unlimited high speed.
Right now I pay $250 for dial up speed with a 100gb/month limit.

Awesome. Can't wait to see what your experience will be. Seems like a no brainer if it works as advertised.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
I sure as hell hope it does.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Every single internet service provider we have, services everyone else on our street EXCEPT us.
So when I had to do an e-sig on the StarLink site saying that I agree I will not get my deposit back if they cannot provide me service, my eyebrow raised.
I'm still in the "I will believe it when it's up and running" mindset.

You should check out some of the videos. Seems like everyone that got has been happy with the results.Quoting megladon8 (view post)

But everybody's gone
And I've been here for too long

Starlink coming to my area too. Lots of people prebuying. I don't need to because I'm in town, but glad to hear more people getting usable internet.
Yeah, though not from all the way back. I remember the horror thread being pretty huge back when I "joined in".Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Actually, a random thought about that thread is what made me do a search for Match Cut to see if it was still around yesterday.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
I'm sort of happy that the Rotten Tomatoes forums are gone forever, though. Man, I posted embarassing shit back then.
And thanks for all your greetings, folks. I'll stay a while.

Americans not having decent or affordable internet in 2021 is such a mystery to me.
Also, American phone plans sound horrible. I pay around $25-$26 every month and I have unlimited* fast internet and calls in Europe and many other parts of the world. When I hear Americans speak about their phone plans it sound pretty miserable.
(* = there's a "fair use" limit that I don't think I'll ever exceed)

Meg is in Canada.Quoting Lasse (view post)
But I agree. the US has always lagged behind other countries when it came to internet technology and speed.
Japan is the leader in that front.
Oh right.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
I actually remember Meg mentioning his terrible internet many times.

Canadian cell phone plans are astoundingly awful, because there are only like 3 companies so they charge whatever the hell they want.
I pay $120/month and I have 3gb of data and 300 minutes talk.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

Wow.
I pay $10 US for 200 minutes, 10GB internet (+10GB for a single app of my choosing) and unlimited texting + 5000 minutes for calls within the network (once the allowance is used up). And everything is transfered into the next month for three months. I've never run out of anything on my plan.
Holy cow, that’s actually unbelievable. I just checked my supplier’s website. Their minimum plan is unlimited minutes and 40GB data. That’s about $24/month.Quoting megladon8 (view post)

Does anyone else find it comes across as dismissive when someone rarely responds to your messages with more than a thumbs up?
