The early word on it isn't too good, either:
I Played Sonic Frontiers And I Still Don’t Get It: Sega’s first open-world Sonic adventure has a lot to prove
That Starfield game looks polished and pretty well produced, but it mostly makes me want to play No Man's Sky. Good enough to get me to try and get a new XBOX? Not yet. Still, I will be keeping an eye on it.
Also, after the unmitigated disaster that was Fallout 76, I am inclined to take everything coming from Todd Howard with more than a few grains of salt.
I feel like Sega wouldn't fuck up a new Sonic game, but an open world seems like the way to do it. If it were like the Super Mario 64 games, I'd be all up for that.... Unless thats what "open world" is considered?
I think Mario's pace, which is more deliberate, lends itself more to an exploratory type platform game. Indeed, Mario's worlds aren't really massively sprawling, but it matters not because Mario's trademark is not speed so the size of the levels is still apt.
If a Sonic open world game were to have the size of levels that Mario has, chances are you'd blast through them in seconds or Sonic's speed would be at odds with the more confined and smaller levels found in a Mario open world game. Like maybe you'd be bumping into shit all the time.
Which is perhaps why Sonic Frontiers' levels look so vast, but also so dull and grey and not-at-all appealing. To me at least. We've come a long way from the vibrant opening of Green Hill Zone. And here is the thing: Mario's 3D games are still as diverse, colorful and all around inviting as his 2d adventures.
Although I'm sure we haven't seen everything from Sonic Frontiers yet.

And now Doom is playable on a lego brick. As if there was ever any doubt.

Good video. Could No Man's Sky be a game where the player gets to make every single choice?

Probably not a AAA game but this looks like something I won't want to miss.
