Doom Eternal isn't really my thing, but hot damn does it look incredible. It's really pushed the adolescent male power fantasy genre to new heights.
So, Control. Few hours in. What a sleek and mysterious game. The rare game where I am eager to find and read every last collectible, not just because they are so clever and well-written, with crucial bits of info redacted by the shady "US Department of Control" (the Wall-E-esque live action footage is also a treat), but also because I'm desperately curious to find out what the hell is going on. Journeying ever deeper into a weirdo layered facility is reminiscent of Inside. Shooting/cool powers combo, plus the glorifying of certain "heads of department," seem to be obvious nods to Bioshock--but what modern thinking person's shooter doesn't have a few of those? All the bits regarding government coverups of paranormal events, the collective unconscious, "objects of power," etc. are fascinating and seem like new terrain in a game like this.
The earliest power you get is "launch," which is basically the gravity gun from Half-Life, and it feels, looks, sounds amazing. When you throw a mail bag at an enemy you see/hear all the paper swirl around the room. Like Days Gone, performance issues from launch seem to be smoothed out at this point. It's not perfect on my original PS4 (frame rate drops when opening and closing menus or unnecessarily spinning the camera in circles), but it plays well enough to enjoy the game.
I'm dying to play DOOM Eternal, but I spent my monthly game budget on 2 board games (which arrived today!)
At the end of the original Half-Life. Amazing game still and the Xen levels aren't as bad as I recall (but still an absolute low point of the game, the only one), Huge disconnect between that and 95% of the rest of the game.
Fighting the final baddy now, Nihilanth. I don't recall when I fought and defeated him last, but what a piece of shit boss fight this is. So fucking frustrating.
I’m going to have to google ‘Dusk’. I’m a little behind.

You gotta when you get a chance. What they were able to do with everything after the Lambda Core was incredible. Xen looks like an alien planet.
Check out this screenshot I took. Just whaaat?

I would love for Black Mesa to come to consoles.
Nintendo eshop is having a big sale on "visual novel" titles, and I have no experience with this genre.
Thoughts? Recommendations?
yea Duke I heard the XEN levels received a super overhaul. Looks smashing, but entire game does to be honest. So either we get a console release or I'm going to have upgrade the laptop at some point. In which case I'll probably ponder really hard whether I'm gonna go all the way and make sure my gear is Half Life Alyx proof as well. :)
Anyway, started Half-Life 2 now. Again. lol
EDIT: Duke, what kind of PC do you have? Just curious. What kinda power and how does it run Alyx?
Oh and by the way, Resident Evil: Village is rumoured to be the new game to be released in 2021.
