Nutcracker comes out a week before The Grinch, two weeks before Fantastic Beasts, and three weeks before Disney's own Ralph Breaks The Internet for a massive Thanksgiving slate. The family market is totally stacked against it, and I cannot imagine it being a priority for a kid before any of those (and even if you say Beasts, the Potter fans will make up the difference). Add to that the fact that it's a creepy-looking Christmas movie that comes out Nov. 2, so all of the marketing will be out and about heavily during Halloween time, likely only helping to emphasize the spookiness and disconnect from the holiday season.
I'd be very surprised if it makes more than $70 million domestically. Disney is due for something to underperform like Alice Through The Looking Glass, The BFG and Pete's Dragon did in 2016, and they've yet to really have one of those in a while. (A Wrinkle In Time and Christopher Robin being their least successful of this calendar year, still making $100 million and $95 million, respectively.)
