She did not die.
Boris Johnson moved to intensive care. Condition getting worse. If Boris Johnson dies, it might be one of the few things that would even freak Trump out.
Thinking of you, Skitch.
Get well soonest.
Hope you’ve got a pile of pedialyte or Gatorade at your disposal.
Get well soon, Skitch.
Skitch, so sorry man. Get well soon.
I echo the get wells for Skitch. Rest up and heal buddy.
My sister just tested positive again after almost a month in quarantine. She feels fine but can't go back to work, obviously. Mostly she's tired of being cooped up inside and now she's hemorrhaging money after using all her sick leave and PTO. She's getting tested for the third time this week and will see what happens then.
Pop - do you mean she got it again?
Or hasn't gotten rid of it?
Yeah...I was told when I'm fever and drug free for three full days I'm good to go.
Hasn't gotten rid of it. Supposedly it moves out of your system by 14 days, 21 days at the latest and by then you should test negative. She's had it for 30 days and is still testing positive. She's going on four weeks of being out of work. If she tests positive again, she'll have to miss five weeks. Kinda sucks. She feels great. No symptoms anymore, but because she is positive, she's a liability and has to stay home.
We'll probably hit 500k cases in the USA by the end of the week. The good(?) news is that death rate doesn't seem to be as extreme as was predicted. I thought we would be at 100k deaths by the end of April. Looks like it might be closer to 50k. I think there will be pressure to ease up on economic restrictions in May, but not sure how we'll do that w/o triggering more outbreaks. Still curious if the weather will torpedo this thing a bit.
Wait...the original projections were 2% death rate, weren't they?
50k deaths out of 500k cases is 10%.
Isn't that much, much, MUCH worse than was originally predicted?
Not quite. 500k by the end of this week. We'll probably hit somewhere between 750k (low end) and 1M (high end) total cases by the end of this month. So 50k deaths out of 1M is 5% ... still bad, but possibly better than it could have been. I also hypothesize the warmer weather across the country will have a positive effect, even if plenty of doctors and scientist have been "not so fast!" about that.
EDIT: could be wrong about the weather thing. Arizona is currently around mid range of cases in the states with close to 3k cases. Presumably their weather has been in the 70s since this thing broke out. The MLB wants to play all their baseball games in Arizona, presumably because the warm weather will supposedly knock out the virus. Beyond the logistics of that, don't think it's going to happen with any type of crowd.
Ah, yes, okay. Sorry I just misread it.
I find it horrifying and surreal talking about this.
It is indeed. I'm sorry if this sounds lame, but we have to take away something positive from all of this. Individual tragedy cannot be averted but, as a global community, I hope something will be learned. I know I am not the same person already that I was before this all began, and I'm not even that affected personally.
Incidentally, a friend of mine thought he had COVID but later learned it was dengue fever, which is far more dangerous and unpredictable in a young person. It's a tropical disease that has been around in Argentina for many, many years and, during our government before this one, cutbacks in public health meant it spread far worse. My friend is fine, he's already recovering, but governments that favored keeping the economy active over health concerns need to go. Look at England, man. Boris Johnson, who looks like a hangover Trump by the way, basically said he was willing to pay the human cost over the financial crisis. Now he's in intensive care and the fucking Queen has spoken. This is the fifth time she has spoken to the British people in 68 years of being queen an some news outlets treat it like some kind oi achievement. The British people pay for her luxurious lifestyle and it takes an international crisis for her to even address them. She has spent 68 years not working and getting paid handsomely because some alleged family of hers took some land in the XIth century. Isn't that just insane?
As of now, it's a 3.5%. 14.7k deaths out of 435k cases. Similar to what Italy was experiencing at the end of March, it looks to be plateauing case-wise, with highest amount of deaths also happening at the moment.
Wuhan has started letting people travel and opened up businesses again. Shanghai Disneyland is having a slow open, and you have to present a QR code showing that you've had good health to enter. I am waiting for something like that to happen here.
