I normally wouldn't make a thread on a video game adaptation... but
1. Naughty Dog Creative Director Neil Druckmann is writing the screenplay
2. It's being produced by Sam Raimi

I hope they get an actress that looks just like Ellen Page to play the part.
I'm down.
Could be great... But what could the movie do that the game didn't?
Hugh Jackman seems to be the only man on Earth who can play Joel at the moment. But if I may diverge from the beaten path:

Hugh Jackman and someone like Shailene Woodley seem great.
I'm not sure if someone as big as Jackman would do this. Even with Raimi producing, he's not a stranger to associating himself with horror-tinged stuff without A-list casts. I don't know what ballpark budget they have in mind for this, but I can't shake the idea that it'll probably be someone like the dude from Grimm in the lead (and particularly him since he looks exactly like the character in the game, if a bit younger).
Ellie is a different story, since any logical recognizable choice would likely have to age up the character a bit (from what, 14 years old?). I could see actresses like Chloe Moretz and Maisie Williams being who they try to go after, and them each doing very good jobs.
Needs to be confirmed, but apparently according to twitter, Sam Raimi just turned up unannounced in SDCC to announce he's producing this and wants Maisie Williams to play Ellie.
Uum, yes. Please.
I have yet to see a good video game movie, and neither of those names scream "instant win!" to me.
Maisie Williams definitely does as far as I'm concerned, but I really don't need to see this movie. I played the game, which was really a cinematic enough experience.
Eh...it wouldn't be the first time a video game movie got a great actor and ended up still sucking the big one.
Pretty sure he meant Ben Kingsley as Big Bertha in Super Mario Brothers.

Guy's a pro.
Still waiting for a truly great videogame movie. So my philosophy is: the more they crank out, the bigger the chance someone's gonna get it right.
Like K-Fan said, I think Last of Us is cinematic enough already that there's really nothing that a movie can do to improve on it.
Why does it have to improve on it? Yes, we're going from a visual medium to a visual medium, which is different going from novel to movie, but i still feel there's a chance both can coexist although it would be cool if they could subvert certain expectations in subtle ways such as when starbuck in the new BG turned out to be not a dude.

Neil Druckmann says the project is sort of in limbo, no work's been done for the past year and a half.
