That's too bad. The last week was pretty much godly. They showed so many clips I haven't seen before, like Conan hanging out at Hunter S. Thompson's estate, shooting machine guns drunk at Hunter's books. It's insane. Then they did a bit saying goodbye to Masturbating Bear, since the FCC wouldn't allow him on Tonight Show.
Also, Richter showed up at the last show and it was really, really sweet.
Doh! I forgot Hulu has Conan.
I now love Hulu.
His final sign off was amazing. Love the line about not knowing how to "grow up for 11:30."
Hulu hates us forinners... and children and old people...
I really can't wait to watch it. I hope it comes online sometime soon as I missed the original broadcast.
I also just recently watched most of Conan's Inside The Actor's Studio interview and it was fantastic. Conan told some pretty interesting stories and revealed a few personal details... while still remaining his usual hilarious self.
You can watch it (segmented into various parts) on YouTube here. Definitely worth a watch.
Anyone else planning to catch Jimmy Fallon's first night tonight?
Well, this was pretty lame.
Fallon's way uncomfortable. Considering this show was announced 5 years ago, that's frankly surprising. He doesn't have confidence in himself or his jokes. His bits were super lame ("Lick it for Ten" and "Slow Jam the News"--you serious?) and he looked as if he'd been asked to host a show he'd never heard of three minutes before air.
The monologue flopped and the ridiculous blue curtain behind him didn't help. He stole a bit from Conan's persona but didn't commit to that theft so it came off really limp.
The increased amount of interplay with the band (The Roots?!) is a potentially good idea, but if so, they need to rework the format, maybe even revamp the set to accommodate it better.
He doesn't have a lot of charisma. The show lit up like crazy when Justin Timberlake showed up for his interview. Hell, Timberlake should be his sidekick. Or vice versa.
It's the first show. He had jitters, that much was obvious (obvious when he interviewed on Conan last month). I'll check back in with Fallon next time Craig's in reruns or something to see if he improves.
Oh, well. At least Fallon >>>>>>>>>> Carson Daly.
Seriously, Carson Daly (which I'm accidentally kind of watching right now because I'm on the computer instead of in front of the TV) is a fucking charisma vacuum. I become a less interesting and entertaining person when he's on.
And you're already at critical, so this is bad news.

Pretty sure any high school drama class could come up with a stronger bit than "lick it for ten." WTF was that?
Fallon seems affable enough to gain a following, and he isn't a completely inept at interviewing like Kimmel or Daly. Not my thing, and I probably won't make any effort to watch again, but I could see it working with the "safe" Leno crowd.
I'm content with Craig Ferguson. But I was content with Ferguson even when Conan was still on. I won't be switching over for Fallon or anyone else so long as he's still doing The Late, Late Show.
When's Conan start again?
I had the benefit of Conan being on after Kimmel/Ferguson, so there was really never anything to complain about if I were watching Late Night TV.
Oh, very, very much agreed K-Fan. Though I do like to know what else is out there.
Conan's new gig starts June 1st.
And once again Conan will take a backseat to Dave. I like Conan, quite a bit actually, but David Letterman and Craig Ferguson are too great to pass up.
I may very well end up switching it up between Dave and Conan. I'd probably agree that Dave's the better host overall, but Conan provides something different that I'll likely be in the mood for (and I'll watch this new show with great curiosity).
