Well, color me a fan of this apparently very divisive film. I watched the whole trilogy very close together and, while I believe the first two chapters are merely ok, this third climatic film strikes a special chord by virtue of going completely against expectations. Instead of just setting up yet another Mike Myers return the script actually keeps the Shape out of the story for most of the running time, focusing on a new character called Corey and how his life becomes entangled with the Strodes. Many have noticed how Gordon Green's directing style here seems like a riff on 70s and 80s Carpenter, particularly Christine, and his camerawork is exquisite and fluid, More importantly, I think it's a film that works because it has a steady handle on its characters. I haven't seen H20 or Resurrection to be honest (and they don't have a really good rep with anyone) but what this trilogy does with PTSD Laurie Strode is really cool. She's a badass character and a strong emotional anchor.
Man, H20 somehow comes off better and better with each release of Green's trilogy entry.
Very interesting and change-of-pace concept for a slasher sequel/final entry, plus I love JLC being more at the center of things compared to Kills. Shame that it might surpass Green's own 2018 Halloween (which I didn't much like) or be even *good* if the execution is better. I found some things to be annoyed about the 2018 version, but on a character and scene-by-scene writing basis it almost feels award-caliber by comparison to Kills and Ends, both of which regress bad, with the latter especially grating when it comes to characters not in the main group. I mean, if feeling murderous about those teen bullies and ex-boyfriend cop is counted as disturbing psycho potential, sign me up for that Michael Myers mentor masterclass. 5/10
Well, I think that's screenwriting 101 about making the audience identify with a serial killer - the people around him have to be unpleasant enough that you look forward to the kills.
I rather liked H20. I'll get to this one eventually, but all my coworkers who saw it told me it was bad haha.
Huh I really, really enjoyed and liked this one. I also think it's the best of the DGG trilogy, honestly.
