Fantasy Movie League: October 2017 - March 2018
SCOREBOARD
RULES:
[What is the fantasy movie league?
We pick movies released from April-September. However much they make domestically in a month (28 days) of wide release is that movie's score. The league works best with 6 players picking 9 movies (obviously we will have divisions), but we will work with what we can based on interest.
I've never done a fantasy anything. How much is expected of me? Is this a pain in the ass?
A little work at first, and then nothing at all. This isn't a usual fantasy game scenario where you're making moves week-to-week, etc. Do your homework, draft your movies, and thats it. Sit back for the following months and watch the numbers roll in. If a movie gets shifted from its release date to out-of-game time, you may need to make another pick, but thats an exception. Normally in my league with IRL friends we have an entry fee as a prize, but I'm not going to attempt that on MC for year one. Maybe I'll throw the winner a prize.
Seems simple enough. Any other rules?
General Rules…
1) Drafting order is determined by a drawing.
2) The draft will utilize the “snake” method...ex. ROUND ONE: player 1, player 2, player 3, player 4, player 5, player 6. ROUND TWO: player 6, player 5, player 4, player 3, player 2, player 1. AND SO ON.
3) Each team/player will select a total of nine regular movies. (subject to change based on interest)
4) Each regular movie will have four weeks (28 days) to make as much DOMESTIC money as possible.
5) The official box office receipts and theater information will be taken from boxofficemojo.com.
6) The team/player with the highest total DOMESTIC gross at the end of the game wins ALL THE MONEY.
7) The season runs from April – September. All movies selected in the draft must be released or have an initial release date within this time span or they will not count and you will lose those selections. Also, re-released movies will not be eligible. (So do your research before drafting)
Specific Rules…
A. Is There A Cap On How Much A Movie Can Make
- Each movie will have a cap of 200 million dollars.
B. What Happens If A Movie Gets Pushed Back
- If a movies’ release date gets pushed back but still opens within the regular season…the movie will still count as normal.
- If a movie’s release date gets pushed back beyond the regular season…That person will have ONE WEEK (after we discover/find out it’s been pushed back) to either pick an un-drafted and un-released movie that falls within the regular season time frame OR take that movies’ round gross average.
- If you don’t choose another movie or take the round average within one week, and report it to the commissioner …YOU WILL GET $0 FOR THAT MOVIE.
C. What About Movies That Get A Limited Or Staggered Release
- Any movie that gets released in less than 200 movie theatres is considered a limited release.
- For ALL MOVIES, the four-week clock DOES NOT BEGIN until the film crosses the 200-theatre line. Once a film crosses the 200 theatre line, the four-week clock begins. (This will usually apply to movies that open in select cities before getting a wide release)
- If a movie never crosses the 200-theatre line, that movie will still get credit for its’ initial four weeks. (This will usually apply to independent, art house or other lower budget films)
- If a limited release film only crosses the 200-theatre line for 3 weeks or less and then goes back below the 200-theatre line…THE CLOCK DOES NOT RESET…IT CONTINUES TO RUN.
- If a limited release film only crosses the 200 theatre line for 3 weeks or less and then gets pulled from theatres…That movie will get credit for it’s weeks past the 200-theatre line plus any weeks just prior to crossing the 200-theatre line needed to get the movie it’s total four week gross.
D. What About Any Unforeseen Issues That Might Come Up
- The commissioner will discuss the issue with the rest of the league in order to come to a consensus about how to best solve the problem at hand.
HOLY SHIT THATS A LOT OF RULES. I'M OVERWHELMED.
Don't worry! I'll hold your hand! These rules have been developed over several years of playing. No-cap Avengers really boned up the game so we started leveling the playing field. Its much better this way. Trust me.
