Sony is looking for new writers to kick off a Venom franchise.
They also seem a little concerned that Topher Grace couldn't carry the franchise on his own, so they're looking to recast.
Can't say I disagree with them there.

Fucking stop already.
A venom franchise would suck but it's a shame the character didn't really get his due in the trilogy.
I've never been a big fan of Venom, nor do I really think of him as that cool of a villain. *Shrug*
Why would a Vendom franchise suck?? What if they wrote Punisher into the series too? I loved those issues.
They should have Carnage be Venom's adversary and then have Rob Zombie direct.
...Or not. Like I give a shit...
Bad idea. A good Spiderman movie with Venom would've been a good idea.
Better question than why a Venom franchise would suck: Why would a Venom franchise be good?

Gary Ross is writing “Venom,” Columbia’s “Spider-Man” spinoff based on one of the villains from “Spider-Man 3,” as a potential directing vehicle. Ross is already writing “Spider-Man 4” for the studio.
He tweets all the time, y'all.
Director of Chronicle in talks to do Spider-man spin-off. So says the Los Angeles Times.
I think Jackie Earle Haley was born to play Carnage. Just a thought.
bump
At least at this point, Remender has adequately demonstrated the potential of a decent Venom-centric franchise.
Speaking of Remender, I hear many people lauding his "Uncanny X-Force" stuff, and a few saying it's absolute shite.
Any thoughts on it, Sven? I find your input on comics pretty invaluable.
Hi. I just wanted to my own thread about a movie that never happened.
(What? Everyone else has one!)
This thread is also about the glories of Wafflebot.
Could be a decent change-up to have a character start out as an anti-hero in his own movie, and then become a villain in another movie's sequel. Never been done before, right?
Ha. I guess this really is happening. Avi Arad said they want to set the Venom movie in the same universe as The Amazing Spider-Man and have them crossover.
Seems that Sony's current plan is to take Disney's cue and build their own Marvel universe with what little characters they have. Smart money if they really want to compete with Disney is to joint produce with Fox and make a Spider-man/X-men team-up movie.
