Darkest Dungeon is fantastic. The balance of resource management and hero missions feels great and reminds me of X-COM: Enemy Unknown, one of my favorite games ever. Of course, by "great" I mean absolutely punishing. There's never quite enough currency to do even half of the the things you want, forcing you to make tough decisions which may or may not pay off in the long run. The missions are tough as hell--in addition to managing your party's HP, you have to watch their stress level. If it rises to a certain point then they may be hit with a mental affliction and start messing everything up. Once the mission is over, win or lose, a lot of the resources are spent reducing stress levels at the bar, the church, or brothel so that heroes eventually have the mental fortitude to take on another dungeon.
To further complicate things, each hero has a set of quirks that may or may not be beneficial. For instance, one hero may be a nymphomaniac, meaning they will only visit the brothel to reduce stress, while another may have "deviant taste," meaning they're not allowed to visit the brothel any more. It's really polished for an Early Access game.
I wonder how well it will work on the PS4. Seems to me the Wii U would be a better fit.
Episode 2 of Game of Thrones was a huge step up from the mediocre first episode.
Still amazed by Alien Isolation. The atmosphere is perfect. Playing on hard and pleasantly surprised it doesn't cheat on me. If I'm quiet and outta sight, the Alien may walk past, it may hiss, but it won't get me. At least so far.
Lots of save stations also so I'm definitely wondering when frustration, if the reviews are anything to go by, is going to rear its fugly head.
Interesting interview with Nvidia on the 970 cards.

So I got a Wii U, and my favorite game so far is... Captain Toad?
Captain Toad is great. So damn charming.
The WiiU is amazing.
So I beat it in just a couple hours, fully completing probably fifteen of the twenty-or-so courses, then saw the credits roll and thought, "Well it was great while it lasted." Then episode two unlocked, where you play all new levels as Toadette. The amount of content seems just right for $40.
The levels are far from challenging, but they're oddly satisfying nonetheless.
Yep it's a fantastic game. I 100% completed it and it took me around 20 hours. Besides the 3 episodes there are also a bunch of bonus levels you unlock including some if you have a Super Mario 3D World save game on your system.
The developer had to come out and write an entire essay/article defending their right to talk about all the DLC and pre-order bonuses months before the game even went gold.
That's a huge turn off for me.
Make a game, release it content-complete, then talk about DLC.
But who knows, the game might be amazing, but it doesn't look like something I'll investigate much.
I like DLC when it's handled like the Souls games, or like Skyrim - DLC that comes after the game has been released, and adds to an already good and solid game. More like old school expansion packs.
I don't like it when developers talk about DLC before their game is even out, and I can't stand pre-order bonuses. Pisses me off that Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne both have pre-order bonuses. That crap has to stop.
Here we go.
Evolve launches with over $150 of DLC - over 40 pieces of DLC on the XBOX market place.

FUCK THAT.
Any game that does that is a huge pile of shit.
I'm with DD here. Oh and btw, that $150 of DLC isn't covered under the Season Pass.
That doesn't bother me. It's all just cosmetic weapon and costume skins nothing that actually adds to the gameplay. I've seen this in a bunch of Japanese games I've played over the last 5 years and I just ignore it. I mean shit a game like Little Big Planet has probably $1000 worth of DLC costumes and I never hear anyone bitch about that.
I figured those of us still paying attention to the gamergate circus would find interest in this.

Played through Wolfenstein. Solid story driven FPS. I don't think I was as enamored with it as meg was but it was a fun game especially for the $15 I paid for it.
Ooooh, a new toy....

I got an email today from one of the gaming stores in town that I'd won something in a drawing I entered around New Years. I figured it'd be a gift card or something.
I went in and was handed a voucher for a brand new Nintendo 3DS XL bundle (the new system, Pokémon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire, a game of my choice and an AC adapter).
I'm excited. I've never really had a handheld system and have NEVER played a Pokémon game before, I am just ecstatic that I now have a system I know my fiancée will enjoy, as it has more casual fare available.
That said, I was kind of shocked that the system does not, by default, come with an AC adapter and that it has to be purchased separately. Apparently Nintendo figured most people would be upgrading their older 3DS and decided to not give them extraneous accessories.
I got Omega Ruby and Monster Hunter 4, as well as a couple used DS games for the fiancée (one of the Professor Lawton games and a hidden objects game).
I'll let you know my impressions once I have a chance to sit down and fiddle with it.
I mean, it WAS only $12 for the adapter, so its not like they're gouging their customers.
Nice!
Got the new system on its way in the mail, along with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
You can also get AC adapters on ebay for $3. That's where I got mine.
Windwaker HD is the best looking video game I've ever played.
