Sad to see the new Star Ocean game will be Xbox exclusive.
...anyways I beat MGS4 today...one of the best if not THE BEST game I've played. I'd probably still give the edge to FFVII and Galaga though haha.

All the announcements and news in one post:
Nintendo and Sony will have their conferences later today. I doubt they will have something bigger than the FFXIII 360 announcement though. :PQuote:
E3 2008: Microsoft Press Conference Round Up
Final Fantasy XIII on 360 overshadows new Portal and the long-rumored Netflix partnership.
One down, two to go. Microsoft held their E3 2008 press conference earlier today -- the first of the big three, with Sony and Nintendo following tomorrow -- and if anyone thought the Intellisponse leaks last month meant there wouldn't be any surprises, they were wrong. Well, partly.
Yes, some of the stuff leaked back in June was indeed confirmed today, but Microsoft left their biggest surprise for the end, and no one saw it coming: Final Fantasy XIII was confirmed for the Xbox 360, set to release simultaneously with the PlayStation 3 version on launch day (a day, however, that still hasn't been revealed). The announcement was only made for the U.S. and Europe, though, as it turns out that Final Fantasy XIII will remain a PS3 exclusive in Japan (you can read more about this announcement here).
But besides the FFXIII bombshell, the press conference went mostly as expected. Microsoft showed off a number of their biggest upcoming releases: Fallout 3, Fable 2, Resident Evil 5, Gears of War 2, Guitar Hero World Tour, Rock Band 2, and the previously leaked Lips all got some of the spotlight, along with a few more RPGS from Square Enix (but alas, Alan Wake was nowhere to be seen).
A number of new Xbox Live Arcade titles were also announced, the most exciting being Portal: Still Alive, an expansion pack-styled release with new levels and content. Also revealed were Galaga Legions (a "true sequel" to Galaga being made by the Pac-Man Championship Edition team), a South Park game (which may be a port of the old Nintendo 64 game, but we're not sure), a port of the original Banjo-Kazooie, Uno Rush, and Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 (which should delight everyone who played the original to death but wanted a more direct sequel than Galaxies).
One announced game in particular, though, takes a little more explanation: You're in the Movies. "Played" using the Xbox Live Vision Camera, you'll act out various mini-games and improvisations, and the footage will then be used to create a mini-movie. As an example, Microsoft had one guy run around on stage, one guy pretend to swat at wasps, and a woman dancing. Somehow, this footage was then compiled into a short B-movie about a giant lizard attacking a town (sounds amazing). The game will also feature a director's mode, where you'll be able to edit the footage yourself.
And speaking of movies, Microsoft also confirmed the long-rumored deal with Netflix, allowing subscribers to the movie rental service to watch films on their 360s (and if you'd permit us a little horn-tooting, we so called this back in February). The Netflix deal also factored into Microsoft's other big announcement, which was a complete overhaul of the Xbox Dashboard. You can read more about it here, but it includes confirmation of Microsoft's Avatars, which are similar to Nintendo's Miis -- cute little characters you dress up that will be used in various games, including Scene It: Box Office Smash, Uno Rush, and 1 vs. 100 on the new Xbox Live Primetime. Primetime will feature gameshow-type offerings, where players can even win real prizes. Avatars can also be used in "Live Parties," which let up to eight players join together to chat, exchange photos, and yes, even watch Netflix movies.
But back to the games. Many of them received release dates, so here's a quick recap of what was announced for each title:
Gears of War 2: Release date confirmed for November 7, 2008, as well as a new "Horde" multiplayer mode where gamers take on wave after wave of Locusts. Read more about it here.
Resident Evil 5: Release date confirmed for March 13, 2009, along with confirmation of an online co-op mode. The second player will control Sheva Alomar, a new character that tags along with Chris Redfield. Read more about it here.
Fable 2: Release date... well, at least narrowed to October 2008. Peter Molyneux declared that the game was "finished," and also demonstrated the unique way online co-op will work: As you play, you'll see "orbs" traveling about the world that represent what one of your friends is doing in their own single player game. You can walk up to an orb at any time, and invite your friend into your game. Read more about it here.
Fallout 3: Not much we didn't already know, but Microsoft promised "substantial" downloadable content" that'll be exclusive to the 360 and Games for Windows version of the game.
Lips: Previously revealed as part of the Intellisponse leaks, it turns out everything rumored about Lips is true. It's being made by iNiS (makers of Elite Beat Agents), and lets you upload any song you own to sing along to.
Guitar Hero World Tour: Not much was shown, other than an announcement that Metallica's upcoming new album, Death Magnetic, will be available in full as DLC, as well as in Guitar Hero III (now let's just hope it doesn't suck).
Rock Band 2: The complete song list was revealed, which will include a new Guns & Roses track (really?), and the first appearance of AC/DC and Bob Dylan in a music game. Check out the full song list here.
Square RPGS: Infinite Undiscovery was confirmed for release on September 2, Last Remnant for this holiday season as a timed 360 exclusive, and Star Ocean: The Last Hope for Spring 2009.
What's so big about FFXIII?
Seriously.
People complain about Nintendo rehashing the same characters over and over again, but look at X-Box 360. All the games being focused on just seem to be sequels. GTA IV, Gears of War 2, Fallout 3, Rock Band 2.
I do realize that there are some original games out there, but come on, let's see something new. I forget the name of the game, but it was pretty damn cool seeing something original when you took on an 80-foot monster boss.
X-Box's day doesn't really impress me outside of that Netflix announcement which is actually pretty awesome.
I totally understand what your driving at, and maybe it's because i started playing FF at such an early age, but every FF game is different than the one before it ... and they are all incredible journeys filled with awesome music, cool characters and a huge world.... every FF except for the early ones take 40+ hours to beat... not counting the hundreds of side quests and mini games inside... each game is more epic than the one that precedes it... with the exception maybe of FFXII which i felt was cut short due to the change from turn based to open world....
I heard this was coming, but I thought they would be doing the same for PS3 as well. I suppose the Squaresoft/Enix announcements were a pretty big deal considering that aside from the familiarity of the console, FF and Squaresoft's attachment have pretty much been the driving force for me to stick with PS2 and PS3, giving Sony a huge advantage when it came to RPG games.
I'd feel a lot better about condemning Nintendo's old franchises, too, if Nintendo didn't put out its best Mario game in 19 years last year. There have only been 12 games in the main Super Mario franchise spread over 23 years. I'd like to see some new blood pumped into Nintendo's output as well, but it's not like the games themselves have become bad (though admittedly Twilight Princess is probably the weakest entry in the 3D Zelda series).
Nintendo's press conference is today. They've got a new property called Captain Rainbow that I hope we see more of.
I'm so psyched for Fable 2. The more I think about the way they are handling co-op, the more awesome it sounds. It's almost as if they've added an element of SF to the fantasy setting. Since each world will be slightly or drastically different, depending on how each player plays, when we go into our friends' worlds, it will be like exploring a parallel universe. So theoretically, I could track down the woman I married in my friend's game and see what happened to her in his game.
This game is going to be so fun.
I also love how in it, and in Fallout 3, you have a dog. That is awesome.
The first Giantbombacst E3 podcast has been posted.
Anyone play Squenix's iPod game, Song of Unsung Heroes, or some nonsense?
It's pretty cool. Nice little $5 time waster. It's basically Monster Rancher meets Vandal Hearts. As a Conductor, you generate fighting creatures using the songs on you iPod - and the more you listen to those songs the more powerful the creatures become - and then you send them into battle using a traditional turn-based system, ala VH.
It's fun so far, played it yesterday on the bus.
Valve changed the models and characters for the Left 4 Dead game. Their reason for changing the characters is that they should be more instantly recognizable, like the characters in Team Fortress 2. I want to see some screens of these new designs though, before passing judgement. The new ones look ok, but I like the old ones as well.
Also, the release date is the same as Gears of War 2 for the 360. I'm not sure if that is such a smart idea by Valve.

Given the choice of a day-1 purchase, I will chose Left for Dead. No question.
A new game from Valve > a new game from anyone else, except maybe Blizzard
Now, if LfD was coming out on the same day as Diablo 3, then we'd have a problem.
I'd rather get Left 4 Dead than Gears too. The "director" engine is the most intriguing feature to me, and I'm hoping this will inspire other survival horror games to rip it off.
Ive said it before and I'll say it again... Left 4 Dead was fuckin fun a year ago. Imagine what improvemnts they've made to it since then.
By the way, I don't get what people are considering "original" games.
Besides what E said about most of the big 360 releases being sequels, a lot of these XBox and PS3 games are essentially the same FPS with different stories and character models, barring one or two unique features. I don't even buy that Final Fantasy is different in every installment.
Yes, Nintendo rehashes their characters over and over, but look at the difference in the games they release. You can't exactly say that Mario Party is similar to Paper Mario is similar to WarioWare is similar to Super Mario Bros. In fact, does anyone know any game designed like WarioWare? How well would people receive Nintendo if they'd just replace the character models in these games to something new?
Oh yeah, speaking of Mario Galaxy, I beat it Sunday (that is, beat Bowser, I'm still working on 120 stars). Beautiful, beautiful game. Hands-down my favorite 3D Mario.
It's so much fun, isn't it? I love it too. And the music is so great, I especially love the Gusty Garden theme.
Speaking of games were playing, I'm currently playing The Simpsons Game. It's surprisingly really, really cool. And pretty funny at times, too.
I really hope Nintendo announces something new from Spielberg.
It should be a law that anyone who owns a Wii must also buy Boom Blocks.
Actually, this should be the game that comes packed in with the system.
The conference starts in less then a minute. Here is a link to watch it live:

Oh boy...already playing the soccer mom card.

I thought that was Carrot Top at first!
