They do now. But at the start of this gen, when console games started going for $60, PC games were still $50 because publishers don't have to pay for the licensing fees that they do on consoles. Console owners threw a fit, but guess what they did? They still bought new games, at the new price. They didn't vote with their dollar. They basically told publishers that it was OK to charge $60, and so soon the publishers made the switch to $60 on the PC to make more money.
However, $60 for a modern game is a good deal as far as I'm concerned. I remember paying between $40-50 for games on the Atari, Coleco, and NES, so adjusted for inflation and given the fact that games far more expensive now to develop, the truth is games are actually cheaper today than they ever have been.
