Thanks everybody. The support really means a lot. I'm just realizing today how much she really meant to me and how much I'm going to miss her.

Black labrador. She was in surprsingly good health for an older dog, but the constant seizures today were too much, and we definitely did the right thing.

What kind of dogs did you have?

A few years back I, for lack of a better word, "rescued" a stray cat from an abandoned crack house. I fed it and it took to me very quickly. It appeared to be love-starved. It was the sweetest thing, loved attention, loved sitting in laps and being pet.

It lasted only a few months before succumbing to feline lukemia. I was a fucking wreck for a long time afterward. I tried taking some consolation that I'd made its final months loving and warm ... but ... ugh, I'm breaking up just thinking about it.

So, Glass Co, I think I know where you're coming from. Give it some time.

It was great of you to take care of the cat like that, Spun, and I myself would feel the same way you do/did - giving it some warmth and care in its last few months really did mean a lot and make a difference.

That's how my family is with Josephine, our new St. Bernard. After spending her first 3 1/2 years in the hell hole that is a puppy mill (as a breeder) we want whatever life she has left, whether it be long or short, to be happy here.

The seller says the bank might finalize the deal on my house by Wednesday. I'd... have a house. That's pretty heady stuff.

In unrelated news, I kind of killed a bird on Sunday, and I kind of killed it twice. By accident. With my car, and then with my hands. But I was wearing gloves. And, seriously, this isn't even the first time I've killed a bird with my car, and it's frustrating, because they can fly and you'd think they'd figure out how not to get hit by cars.

There's also a disturbing bunny-slaughtering story in my past, but we don't talk about that.

So, a little polar bear goes up to its mother, asks, "mommy, are you sure we're polar bears?"

"Of course we're polar bears, sweetie," says Mom.

"You sure?"

"Yes, I'm sure. Go ask your father."

Not convinced, the little polar bear goes over to its father, asks him the same question: "Daddy, are you sure we're polar bears?"

"Of course we're polar bears, son, don't be ridiculous."

"Are you sure we aren't grizzly bears?"

"Yes, I'm sure. Why?"

"Because I'm fucking cold."

So one day, three racehorses were relaxing in a stable and bragging. A greyhound was resting on the floor.

The first horse said, "Did you see that race today? It was pathetic. I could have made it around that track in two minutes."

The second horse said, "That's nothing. I could have made it around that track in one minute, forty-five seconds."

The greyhound lifted his head and said, "That's nothing. I could have made it around that track in one minute, thirty seconds."

The third horse said, "Holy crap, a talking dog!"

That's a great and sad story Spun. Good for you for trying.

Time is the key. I'm already beginning to see the upside, like how it's pretty miraculous that it happened when I was at home and not away at school like I am at least 8 months of the year.

Hope the house goes well, Mara. That would suck if they pulled the rug from under you right now.

Apparently I'm fairly naive when it comes to home buying, never having done it, but what could happen? The bank owns the house. I assume Mara has gotten financial approval to buy it. Why is there still unsurity?

It's actually a complicated scenario because I'm buying the house as a short sale.

In a short sale scenario, the lienholders agree to accept less than the required debt to pay off a mortgage. Because it is an underpayment, the legal wranglings to ensure that neither party owes the other when it is finished are complex.

From my vantage point, however, even though the seller asked for a certain amount of money and I offered it, the bank can refuse to be paid off at the requested amount and ask for more money. Which I'm not going to give them.

Also, it's an as-is sale predicated on the home inspection, so even if everyone agrees, if we inspect the house and find mold or something, I'd have to back out.

Clear the reasons why are varied and many...but I thought you'd already seen the house? Weren't there even pictures posted once upon a time?

I think a different one, where I took pictures.

I went into this house, too, but I didn't inspect it. So I don't know anything about the plumbing or if there are termites or dead hookers under the concrete or anything.
