It's partly a money thing too. Marvel's pretty good at budget crunching. They always go for mid-level, cult-like talents. Proven enough, but not exactly high profile. Has a following, but fairly cheap. And if possible, dump the director after the first movie and replace them with cheaper ones, which is what they did by going with Alan Taylor, Shane Black and the Russo brothers.
Actually, from what little I know of the GotG (having read only the Thanos Imperative TPB), I think Fillion would make for a great Star-Lord.

The Avenger's Facebook page says the movie is coming back to about 1,700 theaters this next week. The page said to stay through the credits. Some are theorizing there could be an Iron Man 3 tease instead of shawarma, but I'm thinking it's just shawarma.
Heimdall's role is much bigger in Thor 2, apparently. Woo hoo!

I've seen this rumor in a few places today:
Dr. Strange will be one of the new additions to the Marvel Movie universe, and is expected to have an appearance in Thor: The Dark World.
The names floated around for this role: Viggo Mortensen and Joel Edgerton.
