In the table that's been compromised, your credit card data is encrypted and they don't store your three digit security code. I have automatic alerts on my Chase iPhone app that buzzes everytime a charge/transfer is made, so I'm not about to worry too much about it at the moment.
Your personal info is out there, though. Oh well.
By the way, there's only one documented theft case so far, and there's no confirmation that it was because of the PSN leak. Australian dude could've just been careless.
All good points 8. Makes me feel a bit better. However, apparently the combination of information that was leaked, it's possible someone could figure out your SSN if you 1) bought a home or 2) ever had a court case
I don't know how accurate this information is though.
Disclaimer: I get my information from Twitter
Hey Guys, if I never purchased anything from PSN, does that mean I never actually gave them my credit card number?
I don't remember, that's why I'm asking.
Looks like plenty of people did what you did:

For what it's worth, my credit card company (Amex) said not to worry about the PS3 hacking.
Called Amex today to get a replacement card just in case my CC info was compromised. Amex was happy to do it but also said that they were aware of the PS3 issue and said my card was not in danger.
Since I'm covered 100% against fraud, and based on their claim, I decided not to get a new card.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you only post your cc info on the PSN if:
1) you want to add funds to your PSN wallet
**OR**
2) you sign up for PSN Plus
If neither of those conditions are the case, you're fine, but as a precaution, I would still cancel all your credit cards, change your name, get plastic surgery, abandon all your friends and move to a different country, preferably one with no extradition treaties. And buy a gun. A big one. With a scope.
Everyone download "Outland".
It's amazing.
Seriously.
Everyone.
Download "Outland".
If you are at all intrigued or into the "new retro" style of gaming that XBLX and PSN capitalize on - games like "Shadow Complex", "Geometry Wars", "N+" and the like - then I strongly suggest you check this out.
The visuals are all inspired by African and Egyptian art and mythology. It's gorgeous, and has a beautiful musical score to go with it.
And the gameplay is great platforming adventure fun. The switch between light and dark energy is used in a really cool way, which presents some difficult and rewarding puzzles and enemies.

Just played the demo. I think I may buy it tomorrow. Thanks!
that trailer is total bullshit. available now on PSN my eye!
:snark:
After several beers and a couple bowls of amazing chili (made by yours truly) I finally finished Story Mode in MK9 and opened up Quan Chi and Cyber SubZero.
Disappointed that Quan Chi doesn't have a fatality where a giant skeleton hand comes out of the ground. His fatalities in MK4 (admittedly one of the worst in the franchise), were two of the greatest ever conceived in the series. Oh well. There are other hilarious fatalities that make up for it.
Cyber SubZero has an X-Ray fatality. Pretty funny stuff.
Yeah, I'll definitely be picking up Outland. Looks amazing.
Perhaps i will pick it up meg. It does look stunning.
Been watching streams of MK9 tournaments all day. These professionals are absolutely sick. Makes me never want to fight online (when PSN comes back on).
PSN to come back online in the next days, but only in a partial capacity.

At a Tokyo press conference this morning Sony executives apologised for the PlayStation Network outage that has seen the theft of millions of gamers' personal data - possibly even credit cards. Sony revealed its "Welcome Back" programme designed to reward customers affected by the outage.
Sony will offer "selected PlayStation entertainment content" for free download on a region by region basis. It will announce the content soon.
All existing PSN customers will get 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus service. Existing PS+ customers receive 30 days free. Qriocity subscribers receive 30 days free.
Sony promised more Welcome Back "entertainment and services" over the coming weeks as PSN is turned back on. Sony reconfirmed the news that some PSN and Qriocity services will be available this week. Sony will first turn back on gaming, music and video services.
Meanwhile, Sony went into a bit more detail on last week's cyber-attack that rocked the game industry and left personal data tied to 77 million PSN accounts stolen.
Sony has implemented a variety of new security measures to provide greater protection of personal information. Tests have been conducted with third-party security experts to verify the strength of PSN, and the job of Chief Information Security Officer has been created to "add a new position of expertise in and accountability for customer data protection".
The new security measures include:
Sony has come under fire for not encrypting personal data, such as passwords. In the UK the Information Commissioner's Office plans to discuss the security failure with Sony to see whether it was in breach of the Data Protection Act.
- Added automated software monitoring and configuration management to help defend against new attacks.
- Enhanced levels of data protection and encryption.
- Enhanced ability to detect software intrusions within the network, unauthorized access and unusual activity patterns.
- Implementation of additional firewalls.
But Sony has insisted it encrypted credit card information, and this morning stressed that it has found no evidence "at this time" that credit card data was stolen.
Hirai confirmed the number of exposed credit card numbers was about 10 million. Sony is unsure if those card numbers were actually stolen, and it doesn't know if hackers are trying to use them in fraudulent purchases.
Once PSN comes back online, it will force a system software update that requires all registered PSN users to change their account passwords. The password can only be changed on the same PS3 in which that account was activated, or through validated email confirmation.
"This criminal act against our network had a significant impact not only on our consumers, but our entire industry," Sony deputy president Kazuo Hirai said.
"These illegal attacks obviously highlight the widespread problem with cyber-security. We take the security of our consumers' information very seriously and are committed to helping our consumers protect their personal data. In addition, the organization has worked around the clock to bring these services back online, and are doing so only after we had verified increased levels of security across our networks.
"Our global audience of PlayStation Network and Qriocity consumers was disrupted. We have learned lessons along the way about the valued relationship with our consumers, and to that end, we will be launching a customer appreciation program for registered consumers as a way of expressing our gratitude for their loyalty during this network downtime, as we work even harder to restore and regain their trust in us and our services."
Sony is working with law enforcement to track down and prosecute the hackers, it said.
Sony also said that they're going to cover all credit card reissuing and improper charges fees.
I've been planning on picking up Outland for awhile now but I want to finish Clash of Heroes first. This game is incredibly addictive and long. I'm now over twenty hours in and haven't even finished the fourth of six worlds.

New Tomb Raider inspired by Half-Life 2, 127 Hours, Batman Begins, Lost, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted.
I'm playing the previous Tomb Raider for the first time right now... what will this be, reboot No. 3 or 4 so far? I'm just hoping they do the damn thing right, Underworld is beautiful and the expanded gameplay is great, but it's buggy as hell. Some parts are downright frustrating.
Goddammit, Mortal Kombat. Why ya gotta be so awesome.
Sony was breached again last week while the PSN was down, this time with SOE and their EverQuest/Star Wars: Galaxies customer base.

In a press release issued by Sony, the company said that it had discovered hackers had gained access to the Sony Online Entertainment servers, which house approximately 24.6 million customer accounts and 12,700 credit card and debit card numbers. Sony said the hackers might have stolen this information, but the company could not be sure.
