I'm with ya on this. I hate this franchise with a hot passion.

You guys should play Ninja Gaiden 2 (360). I couldn't pass the first boss on the first Ninja Gaiden, but I beat Ninja Gaiden 2 and had a ball doing it.
So yesterday, my father went on my Amazon WISH LIST, and sent me Demon Souls and Boyonetta for my birthday. So now I have those two games to play, plus Darksiders AND Mass Effect 2. That's a crazy ammount of games to play right now. Don't know if I can handle it.
I quit after about the 100th time I got killed by something off screen in Ninja Gaiden. It's not really hard, it's just cheap, and the camera it totally broken.
Ikaruga is hard, but fair. Radiant Silvergun is hard, but fair. Mars Matrix is hard, but fair. When you die in these games it's because you lost focus, and messed up.
But all too often I died in NG because of being hit by something off screen. It's just a poorly made game. I've heard they addressed this issue in later iterations of the the game, and made it better in NG2. That the developers addressed the broken camera proves that there was a problem to begin with. Unfortunately, it left such a bad impression on me that I don't ever want to play those games again.
I also dislike the art direction, and Tecmo's depictions of women, but that's an entirely different issue.
Actually, people were complaining just as much about the camera and getting hit by things off screen in NG2 as they were in the original. They did not "fix" such issues because they are intentional elements of design. I will maintain that people simply continue to misunderstand the games. They are not God of War. You are not supposed to see all enemy combatants at the same time. Enemies will do things like maintain safe distances and shoot you while their friends distract you, or try to stay in your blind spots and sneak up behind you. The violence in these games is mean and personal.
Speaking of which, I tried God of War for the first time for about an hour last night and was bored and annoyed by it.
You keep saying that, and yet I've never encountered a single person who thinks the games are similar at all. They are vastly different. NG has more in common with 3D fighting games like Dead or Alive, Tekken, and Soul Calibur, while GoW has more in common with platforming-brawlers.
On a whim last night, I booted up my SNES and started Final Fantasy II. I'm not an RPG person, never have been, so it was slow goings, but I had a reasonably good time, random battles and all.
Sorry, my mind just keeps going to back to previous things I've discussed (the 1UP reviews that compare the games) and discussions I've seen on RT (that, again, compare the games, and why one has a better camera than the other for action games, etc.).
I always see people comparing action games like these on forums or in the enthusiast press or whatever, and I often get the impression people do not appreciate the differences. I have also encountered many times people who play Ninja Gaiden but do not understand how it works, that I guess I just get overly defensive about it. I do not mean anything by it.
What are the best Wii games?
I've heard great things about both. I have heard a few negative in regards to No More Heroes, but I know number8 loves it to death.
My wife actually LOVES House of the Dead: Overkill. Its a fun rail shooter thats not expensive, and its like you're in a grindhouse flick.
I played Okami a bit on PS2, liked it, but wandered off. It definitely seems like a game thats more suited for the Wii.
I have less than great feelings about the little time I've spent with MadWorld, but it has its supporters. In my experience, Okami is best on the PS2, but if that's not an option, it's worth playing on the Wii. No More Heroes is pretty great. Resident Evil 4, if you haven't played it elsewhere. Murasama: the Demon Blade. Little King's Story, most definitely.
And Sin & Punishment, on the VC. An old N64 game that totally rocks.
Agree w/ Davis re: S&P.
Actually, there's a lot of great stuff available via WiiWare and Virtual Console that shouldn't be missed, like Lost Winds and bit.trip.beat and Pokémon Snap. And it shouldn't be forgotten that excellent Gamecube games like Viewtiful Joe can be played on the Wii.
Oh. And fucking Mega Man 9.
Wario Ware: Smooth Moves is a lot of fun, too. Boom Blox is a pretty great party game. deBlob is a fun platformer. I haven't spent much time with it yet, but A Boy and His Blob seems to be something pretty neat.
Metroid Prime Trilogy and Super Mario Galaxy are must haves. RE4 as well. i haven't got into Okami yet, but i'm guessing i'll dig it more than Twilight Princess. Sin and Punishment is awesome if a bit short.
WORLD OF GOO!

Now that I've figured out the multiplayer aspect on Demon's Souls a bit better, I'm actually leveling up. That said, I'm still stuck on the second level. I've beaten the boss with the help of other players, but never by myself. I did pretty well once on my own, so there's hope...
Tough game. Really tough.
