Just started Saints Row II and made my character look like Jason Statham replete with accent. This game is already better than GTA 4.
My friend loaned me Assassins Creed 2. Gonna play that soon.
Looks fun.
AC2 is a load of fun. Seriously, fuck GTA. If I'm going to do open world stuff, I'd rather it be in an interesting time period.
"GTA: Vice City" is the best of the 3D GTA games.
"GTA: London 1969" is the best of the top-down ones.
hmph, i'm in the midst of playing through twilight princess and like 5 hours in i'm quite bored by it so far. i was hoping it would get better. so far it's nowhere near as great as the N64 zeldas, and midna is annoying. i need to pick up windwaker and a GC controller sometime soon.
My rankings:
Majora's Mask > Link to the Past > Twilight Princess > Link's Awakening > Wind Waker > Ocarina of Time > Legend of Zelda > Adventure of Link
They're all great, except maybe Adventure of Link. The main problem with all of them after Link's Awakening is that they've been making it increasingly, ridiculously hard to die. In the original Zelda, a hit took off a whole heart; in the more recent games, many of the hits take off only a quarter of a heart. So any challenge comes from puzzles. Twilight Princess reversed that trend a bit, with a few challenging fights (and an incredibly hard dungeon that you don't have to play through), but it was still far too easy. The fights just aren't any fun when there's little or no risk of being defeated.
surprised to see Ocarina of Time so low. the NES ones are definitely the worst. i haven't played any of the handhelds. i would say Ocarina > Majora's > Link to the Past > Legend of Zelda > Adventure of Link. so far Twilight Princess would squeeze in between LttP and LoZ. i'm hoping it improves a bit. though i'm not sure anything will ever touch the SNES/N64 Zeldas for me.
I'm finding the combat in "Ocarina of Time" horrible due to poor camera controls and the awful Z-targeting system.
I'm nearly done the Forest Temple. Approximately how far into the game am I?
I've never completed a Zelda game, but TOoT's level design was at times so deviously astonishing that I felt like Indiana Jones during his heyday, goosebumps and hairs on the back of my neck standing up. The water temple was brilliant. Perhaps I should replay the game via emulation and right a wrong.
All this Zelda talk reminded me of 3D Dot Game Heroes
I's an unapologetic rip/homage to vintage Zelda by the From Software guys (no the Demon's Souls team is not involved), all done in a bizarre 3D pixel art style, reviews haven't been very enthusiastic but everything looks and sounds so damn cool that i'm tempted to pick it up.
US release is set to May. I love the low-fi music at the website.
I'll have my copy in a week or two, hopefully.
Holy crap. "Sin and Punishment" is freaking nuts.
Collecting the seven pieces of triforce all across the ocean in Wind Waker was the most redundant task in any Zelda game I've ever played. Actually, traveling across the sea in general was a chore. I understand they wanted it to emulate a great sea, but size for the sake of size is not an accomplishment. It was boring as hell.
I vote Twilight over Wind Waker by far. I did appreciate the distinctive style of Wind Waker though.
I agree that the collection bullshit near the end of Wind Waker was really bad. Sailing wasn't that big a chore though, and I mostly enjoyed it up to the end. I think it mostly would've required a simpler mechanic for changing the wind's direction.
I kinda think Nintendo should've just remade Ocarina for Twilight Princess, since that seemed to be what they were aiming to do. The game feels pretty lifeless. The ice dungeon/mansion was pretty swell, though.
How come with Assassin's Creed II, you can't set the modern bits to play in English and the Rennaisance bits to play in Italian? It's such an obvious feature.
I'm a good ways into the Fire Temple now in "Ocarina of Time".
I really hate this damn z-targeting system.
