We're predicted to get a foot here, and my snowblower is broken. I'm not happy about this.

No blizzard in Colorado for two years doesn't make sense. We're bound to have one by March.
I was supposed to be heading back to Ohio for the break today. As Yxklyx notes, the weather has kinda circumvented that plan. Should've left yesterday.
And now to wait for when I can sneak through the weather systems. Tomorrow or Monday... hmm.
We've got about 8 inches of snow so far and it's still falling. Unless this thing changes directions, it's not stopping until tonight.
Naked models skydiving.
NSFW obviously.
I was in South Africa in early June living with a community that had a refugee from Zimbabwe, who was separated from his wife, who lived in a different city, and his kids, still in Zimbabwe. I just found out last week that they were able to bring the kids over and are finally able to live together.
That storm hit here today. We've gotten just under a foot of snow so far today, but it doesn't look like it's letting up any time soon. Got to leave work early and I now start a three week vacation.
Does anyone else here have a song (or songs) that you love, but just a single grouping of notes somewhere in the song hits you like a brick and you could listen to it over and over?
Something that may barely last a couple of seconds, but you find yourself listening to the song in anticipation of that little chunk?
For me it's Pink Floyd's "Time".
A little bit after the guitar solo, Waters sings the line:
"Every year is getting shorter
Never seem to find the time"
While he finishes the line, the female back-up singer does this little flutter with her voice.
It's at 5:31 in the song.
My god, that is orgasmic.
I could listen to that woman's voice all day and night.
Woot, just got my Bachelor's at UNC Charlotte, finally friggin' done.
I can think of a couple:
There's that part in MGMT's "Waiting to Pretend" where the lead singer goes:
"Find some more models / Everything must run its course!" And when that second line hits, his voice ascends with each note, and it's also multiplied, until it's briefly this wall-of-sound chorus that's really awesome.
Also, there's a part in Meat Loaf's "Hot Summer Nights" (seriously) where, about thirty seconds into the song proper, Meat Loaf announces "You were lickin' your lips / And your lipstick shined," and a bunch of ladies jump in with this "Waaah-ahhh," and someone's slamming on the church bells in the background.
I'm a sucker for those punchy moments.
CA Good Samaritan Can Be Sued
I don't know the specifics of this case, but I think there is some sense in this, but I'm not sure I like the repercussions of such a ruling. I think if we say a "good samaritan" is above being held accountable for potential carelessness then we open up a can of worms for certain people acting way out of line in a situation that doesn't call for it (there was recently a local accident where a man overreacted and broke a woman's arm when she was perfectly fine sitting in her car). But, I don't like the idea of people being hesitant to help in real life or death situations for fear of legal troubles.
I think the latter may outweigh the former.
Sounds like a standard torts negligence case. Generally, you are not liable for the harms suffered by a person you're rescuing unless you leave them in a worse position than if you didn't act at all. And even then, you have to prove that the rescuer didn't act reasonably. The claim is that this girl pulled the victim out of the car "like a rag doll" when there was no immediate danger. If that's the case, she was negligent and should have acted with more care or waited for an ambulence to arrive. The girl must have directly caused some foreseeable injury to the victim or else there would be no case. The only sticky part of this case is that it goes against a CA statute that apparently removes liability from any "good faith" rescuer regardless of how reckless or irrational they may be acting. Otherwise, it's pretty standard law.
I think the media headlines (which expand the scope of the actual holding) are likely to do more damage than anything else.
Dave7 is truth.
We got over 6 inches of snow last night, on top of the 4-5 inches we got the day before.
For the first time in my life, I am having to shovel snow. We can't even move our cars.
This sucks!
Since we've been living in Seattle, we've had the worst wind storm ever, the worst rain storm ever, and now it looks like we've had the worst snow storm!
I'm done with the snow.
I need to move back to CA.
It's currently -3 degrees fahrenheit here and there's a howling wind - well outside that is. It's very comfortable inside.
