Well I guess that's where I disagree with you. I think GoW innovated more than people think.... The games that followed are proof. Look at the direction it took Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones.

God of War is a literally awful game. The second one improved on some aspects in terms of mechanics and the plot was a little better, but that's pretty much it. It's fighting (button-mashing, really) is not interesting in the slightest, and Kratos has to be one of the least imaginative video game characters in a very long while. As far as action games of its ilk go, Ninja Gaiden Black is infinitely superior (haven't played NGII, yet). It demands skill, the learning and application of its simple yet effective combos (not to mention the art of blocking) and finesse from the player, and it has no glaring camera issues that I can think of.
I agree. Ninja Gaiden is all but broken. One of the worst cameras ever developed for the 3D action game - I can't even count how many times I died because of getting hit by something off screen. That game is plagued by terrible execution, even the art style is ugly, all the characters look WWF rejects. Can't stand that game.
I'd be curious as to why you think that is when in terms of fighting mechanics (disregarding everything else for the moment), NGB is as objectively superior as something can be in terms of gaming. You can literally button mash away throughout all (not some - all) of GoW, whereas you'd be dead meat in the first level of Ninja Gaiden using such a simplistic tactic. You need to learn the concept of blocking, the various combos (which are all easy to learn but difficult to master in terms of timing and positioning) as well as how to help yourself given your surroundings. And you need to be able to use all of this DYNAMICALLY, and not systematically (again unlike God of War) in order to go anywhere in the game. And really, the fighting mechanics is the core of both games.
Of course, graphics/story/design is all pretty subjective (I too prefer the idea of duking it out in Ancient Greece instead of some futuristic Japan, let me tell you.) But it's significantly less important too.
You are literally the first person I've seen/heard/read speak ill of NGB's camera. I'm not joking. The first. Team Ninja are nearly universally recognized as mastering the art of the 3D action game camera over anyone else, and for good reason. The DOA series is brilliant in this respect as well.
Here it is, in very simple terms:
GoW = fun
Ninja Gaiden - frustrating because of the broke ass camera
When it comes down to it, fun trumps all. I don't have time to be frustrated by games - too old for that! And I don't really care about my skill in a game, because I've got nothing to prove (except for SFIV :))
I had a blast playing GoW 1 and 2, and my time spent with NG was largely spent with me fighting the mechanics and wresting with the camera. I actually played GoW, but I felt like I was fighting the developers with NG.
I've always had MAJOR problems with Team Ninja and their design aesthetic, especially in the way they present their female characters. I think it is disgusting and does nothing by damage the already poor public perception of video games and the people who play them. Their character designs are at best ugly and generic, and at worst only serve to sexually arouse juvenile males.
With that said I also have major problems with the "sex" scenes on GoW 1 and 2 - I think they are terrible, and totally unnecessary.
For an example of a great sex scene in a game, check out Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit.
You guys and your insider lingo... I presume when you say QTE, you're referring to those mini-games that pop up in the middle of, say, boss battles, where you have to quick press triangle (which causes the good guy to jump on the monster's back) followed by square (which causes the good guy to stab the monster in the back) followed by a circle (which causes the good guy to do blaablaablaa whatever). Right?
"Super Mario Galaxy" is so fucking happy I want to kill myself.
Doctors should be prescribing this game to depressives. There's no way you can be sad while playing it. You'd have to be simultaneously getting a blowjob from an 80-year old hooker whom you know is HIV positive and covered in open sores.
It's a fantastic game.
I don't like the main hub-world music, though.
Yeah. QTE = quick time events.
What bac0n said.
I bought a Sega Genesis along with a Sega CD at Goodwill today for under 20 bucks. I was really happy about it, so I went online looking for a game store in town that sells old school games, and low and behold I found one. I went there, and ended up with this:
Road Rash II
Street Fighter II Special Championship Edition
Vectorman
Sonic 2
NBA Jam TE
Mortal Kombat II
X-Men
TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist
So yeah, I'm pretty excited about it. What are everyone's favorite Genesis games? And Sega CD too, if anybody here ever actually owned one. I had a 32X at one point, but never a Sega CD. There was a Star Wars chess game I always wanted to play but never did. Now I can! Yay!

I was a bit dissapointed by this one although I never completed it. No doubt about it, Nintendo came up with an awe-inspiring new setting for a Mario game, the controls are tight and the visuals immensely appealing, but I never found it challenging or taxing. Locating important items felt like a cinch and I collected 45 stars without much trouble. Perhaps I'm not remembering it correctly, but I recall Super Mario 64 having the stars and coins located in more devious places. It made searching for them more tantalizing and memorable. So wonderful variety, but not much of a challenge although I heard that it ramps up after a while. perhaps I should have persevered. Nonetheless, I understand why someone would love it so enjoy!
