Having a choice in your internet provider. You guys live in magical lands.
Speaking of which, does anyone here have Fios? Thoughts.
My street doesn't have cable. It doesn't exist. The street is too old and narrow to excavate, I guess.
I could get a satellite if I wanted, I suppose.
Long story short: not only do I not have a choice in internet providers, I can only have DSL because a phone line is the only thing my house has.
That's what Frontier is. Verizon abandoned all of their lines, pissed off all their customers, and royally fucked up Fios north of Seattle (it's not available in Seattle proper because the city still has like 10 more fucking years with their Comcast contract, LOL!). Frontier came in and bought all the lines, and now runs the fiber service in Edmonds and Lynnwood.
Fast up, fast down, reliable, cheap. No contract, but the price and service is locked in for 3 years. They can't screw me, but I can cancel at any time. Also, I have a local rep who I can call directly, and his office is like 5 blocks from my house.
I don't have any cable television or anything, just internet.
When I canceled Comcast I told them the reason I was doing so was because I disagreed with their politics and their lobbying. Ended up educating the guy about net neutrality, and we had a nice talk.
It felt SO good to cancel Comcast.
I have Time Warner Cable for our internet. I know they are terrible 15 miles away at my buddy's house, but here we've had pristine service. Our bill kept going up and up, so we called and told them to lower it to our budget or we will switch to these other offers we're getting. They immediately cut our bill in half, no questions asked, no change in service. Cable is such a scam.
Those of you that haven't cut the cord on tv yet, call your provider. Demand a lower bill. They will do it. I've done it many times.
My Internet costs 80 dollars a month but it is pretty fast.
I pay $45 a month for 30 down, 10 up.
$49.99 for 60 down, 5 up.
Ours calls us every month begging us to add phone line and basic cable package for just $10 more, and they really don't understand why we're not interested in such a deal. I don't know how many other ways I can tell them that it's a good deal but it'll still be $10 a month I spend on two things that I really don't want.
Very consistent. It used to be 30/2 for $49.99, but like I said, Charter upgraded everyone at no extra charge. They rolled out what they call Charter Spectrum with a bunch of HD upgrades, more pay channels, and faster internet. I've never experienced anything like this with a cable company. Aside from their absolutely atrocious DVR, I have nothing to complain about in regards to their services.
That's great.
Contrary to what a lot of people experienced, I always has great customer service through Comcast. The techs were good, they showed up when they said they would, and any time I had to talk to someone they were friendly.
The main reason I switched was for political reasons.
My roommate and I have Century Link. I'll try and shop around but I have a bad feeling that is all we can get in our area.
Pitchfork's assessment of recent Essential K-Pop. Putting it here since there's been discussion of Perfume, 2NE1, and other assorted K- and J-pop occasionally...
I quite enjoy f(x) and 2NE1's recent albums. K-pop ballads are blah, but energetic K-pop is quite fun.
$139 for 105 Mbps down, 10 up (also includes TV and Phone stuff)

Duke loves the Internet the most. :)
Man, $139 would be my most expensive bill next to my mortgage.
That price includes the most important digital media channel known to man.

The Judd Apatow thread in the Upcoming forums attempted to install malware on my PC. May wanna stay outta there until it's investigated.
