I think there's a big difference between being proud of the person for their accomplishment, and being proud of the accomplishment. Qrazy, you mentioned that you were put off because this person had no hand in what you accomplished, but if they are someone who genuinely cares about you, as long as that person is proud of you, it doesn't necessarily have to be superiority that brings about that pride, just the intimate connection with you. For instance, a friend of mine was successful at quitting smoking years before I was able to quit, and when he achieved that success I told him I was proud of him. Certainly wasn't superiority that brought about that pride, as I was still struggling to kick the habit. I had failed where he had succeeded, but he was a great friend and a supportive friend and I was genuinely proud of him.
