Yeah, I got paid in full days before moving. :)
One of the oddest parts of my job is that I pretty often ending up having conversations with people who are actively delusional. There's nothing quite like talking to a paranoid schizophrenic who is having a bad day.
It's... not boring.
I'm going to North Carolina tomorrow for the weekend. I've never been.
I understand it is warm.
So, apparently everyone I work with has opinions of Chapel Hill, NC. (Which is where I am going.) Everyone's talking about restaurants and stores and golf courses like it's this Destination where everyone has been and loved.
Also, apparently people like James Taylor and Sonic Youth have written songs about the town.
...is there a cultural conversation I missed out on? I had no idea that Chapel Hill was A Thing. And now I feel behind.
It's a pretty key college town in the country and it has a long history of its "music scene." I only really knew about the Cat's Cradle and James Taylor though. Apparently it has become quite a small town foodie destination though. Looks like there are a bunch of cool restaurants that have opened.
That's awesome. I have extended family in Chapel Hill, so if it's really a great place I might visit more often.
I drove through western NC once. It was pretty. This is my contribution to this conversation.
Yay! Happy birthday, Werner Herzog! Here's a lizard with a candle in its mouth.
Lonely Friday on Match-Cut = TRUE
Pants = OFF
I got paid today and I have Saturday and Sunday off. Football and drinking will commence.
New mix up! I've played this set at two parties so far and both times it's gone over very well. This one is classic rock/indie rock and disco primarily. Enjoy.

I am out of the office the rest of the week.
Earlier today, a person with really horrific body odor was in the lobby, to the point when I was forty or so feet away thinking, "What is that?" Even after the person left, it stinks.
Now someone just threw up in the lobby. I can smell it from my office. (50ish feet away.)
I am so glad I am going to be out of the office the rest of the week.
Apparently he pooped, too.
(It's not his fault. He had a seizure.)
That puts in perspective my discomfort at having a guy who breathed REALLY LOUDLY through his nose sit down next to me.
Life is full of curveballs.
My move to Las Vegas is delayed for a while.
I just got promoted at work. My new position is a "Supervisor II" - this is odd because my old supervisor, who left the company (who I am replacing) was a "Supervisor I"
The division manager pushed to get me Sup II so he could pay me more because he says that he knows just how much I do for the team - its not said much, he says, but people KNOW - he got it approved to make sure he could keep me and convince me to stay.
Additionally, since i am taking the job so late in the year, he is going to push for a merit bonus at the end of the year to get me even higher.
Overall, I'll be looking at a 11k - 13k a year increase in salary, depending on the merit increase. Either way...so psyched.
Congrats, Fez!
Djoko-Nadal is incredible right now. 54 shot rally at one point.
Great news Fez.
And Mara your story reminds me of this one coworker at my grocery store job who doesn't bathe or use deodorant. He smells like death.
I just participated in my first live reddit discussion with David Wessel- fun.

This match was phenomenal. Shorter than I expected, but just incredibly entertaining. That rally, as well as few others, were phenomenal. Tennis is the one sport where momentum swings seem to come out of nowhere. I have a hard time grasping how Nadal can look so dominant in the first set, and then struggle in the second and most of the third. It's not like halftime in a football game where game plan can adjust over twenty minutes. There's like three minutes between sets. What the heck happens out there? Such a bizarre sport.
I... don't know if I should even talk about this?
But I'm quite upset.
I'm not at work today or this week, but I just got a call because one of my clients is missing and the police wanted to know if we've had contact with him in the last 24 hours. (I have not.)
He's been very sick the last week or so. He calls me to chat several times a day, and I kind of roll my eyes about it, but I don't really mind. He doesn't usually take up too much of my time, just asks an odd question or two. The truth is, he's a sweet guy and I like him a lot. The last week the calls have been substantially weirder, and I called his people to make sure they were checking on him.
Most likely, he just got ill enough that he wandered off. He might just get picked up by the cops if he does something weird enough to attract attention. However, he is older and I worry that he might have gotten hurt or something. (It has been very hot.)
Extremely unlikely, but he has a major long-standing grudge with some neighbors, who are much more unstable/dangerous than my client actually is. I don't think they're crazy enough to hurt him, but I wouldn't rule it out.
I am very worried. None of the local news sites have mentioned it yet, but I'm checking up on them. Even though he's an adult, he's seriously mentally ill and I hope the police know that, because it puts him in a more vulnerable position. Part of me feels like I should call and tell them, but I don't even know if HIPPA would permit that.
I just... argh. This poor guy.
Helped with breeding some of our alpacas today.
When the female is "open" (not pregnant, and ready to be) she will actually just lie down so the male can do his thing.
The male does lots of grunting and groaning and gyrating. The female looks bored, occasionally even yawning and trying not to fall asleep.
So it's a lot like human sex!
