Good old fashioned road flares are great fire starters, too. Treat 'survival gear' like camping gear. Good sleeping bag, good tent. Don't go too crazy / weird. Buy a brick or two of bottled water, and after a year or two, start drinking some of it and buy a new one. Bottled water doesn't 'last', but a brick of 24 is less than five bucks at Walmart.
Other questions, let me know. I'm fried, and ready to pass out on my hotel bed.
When it comes to 'survival gear', one should at least plan for a few days of being on your own due to natural disaster.

Really just want to have emergency gear for a few days. Even a few years ago, after the 100 Year Storm up here, I was without power for 4 days. Luckily, my parents had power at their house. It was weird.

Here's a pretty fascinating number crunching to suss out the difference between the Veronica Mars, Zack Braff and Spike Lee kickstarters (for what motives, I dunno, but I do think the numbers are interesting).

Basically, he seems to have failed to engage the masses the way VM and Braff did and relied on the traditional method of courting wealthy donors to meet the goal. Not mentioned in the post is that he threw a fundraising party last week here in Brooklyn and got his celebrity friends like Soderbergh to donate a lot of money into it, whereas VM and Braff didn't have to because they met their goals in like a day.
I'd say it has a lot to do with Braff and Mars having a lot of younger fans who are more keyed into the Kickstarter thing. Also, Mars and Braff also enjoy the geekculture, reddit, internet love, where as Lee is often hated upon by the same people because they view him as preachy and out of touch, even though he isn't at all.

I disagree that it has to do with demographic, because that assumes that the internet/social media is made up of just young geekculture people. It's a widely used tool, and plenty of Spike's demo know how to use it. And it's not like this thing wasn't heavily publicized and reported on in the mainstream media. I think it is a clear case of a lack of interest on the project.
I'd argue that it's more about the fact that he's regularly put out films for the past 3 decades, so people see him turning to KS as strange and unnecessary. If Woody Allen or Martin Scorsese suddenly turn to KS, I think we'd see the same result.

Scratch that. I looked. VM had only one pledge attainable of 10K, 3 of 8K, 3 of 6.5K.
Zach Braff- 2 10Ks, 3 9K (out of 10), 2 8K (out of 10)
Spike Lee - 29 10Ks (no limit), 8 10 Ks (other categories, many weren't picked up)
So Spike Lee also offered more incentives to the higher paying pledgers...
Testing out my new Galaxy S III that I got today. I like it but matchcut looks weird on a cell phone.
I love my S3, I don't usually use it for browsing message boards though, they rarely look very good.
I think Twitter looks better on it, as does FB. Still if I'm at my favorite bar I'll probably use it to send drunk posts to match-cut nation.
