Random Thoughts

So. My new garden plot.

I am reaping the advantages of the former gardener in this plot, whom I didn't know. I am hearing strange things about her.

Like, she had these beautiful raised beds built. And I mean, she hired guys to come in and do it. Apparently, she also had a truckload of organic dirt brought in to fill them up. It is, by the way, extraordinary dirt. (My roommate: "I want to, like, write a love poem to this dirt.") She must have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on the plot.

But then, she walked away from it. I asked why, and the lady in charge of the gardens said she was frustrated by all the rabbits. Because the other gardener, despite all her other work, never put in a fence. She had a gate, mind you, that didn't work, but no fence. I sort of suspect she didn't realize how hard, physically, it is to maintain a garden. Because no matter how many people you hire to make it fancy, it is going to be long, hard, and frustrating.

Anyway, I have no problem taking over where she left off. I clipped the cover plants she left short, turned the dirt and broke it up, and put the clippings on top to break down. I fixed the gate, stopped up the gap at the bottom, and installed a latch. And today I built a fence. It's not a marvel of engineering or anything, but it will keep out rabbits. And I'm tired and filthy and I fell down several times, but I'm happy, because I'm going to have the best garden.

I'm considering submitting my Hardy Boys book collection, which is around 60 books, in a student book collection contest in which the grand prize is $500. Thing is, I have to write a bibliography of all the books I own, plus a two to three page essay about the collection. I'm not sure the potential grand prize is worth all that work. Plus, what do I write about my Hardy Boys books?

I have until Friday to figure this out.

So I've been talking to a realtor that has been referred to me by a friend as I'm in the market to buy a condo. Today, she sent me an email with contact information for lenders and at the bottom was a picture of her.

...she looks exactly like Mara. Or could at least pass as her sister. :)

Hmm, not too far off. The mouth is different, but I can see a resemblance.

She's not as attractive as Mara. What? Don't look at me that way... it's true. But yeah, there is a resemblance.

Well duh. There's a resemblance, but Mara is adorable.

True, I have refrained for years from telling my friend or his wife that I think she looks like Kristen Schaal because I'm not sure how they would take it.

I told a girl she looked like Anna Paquin once, which I thought was a total compliment, and she didn't take it too well.

I have a number of normal bruises from falling down yesterday, but one on my hand is looking potentially interesting. I find myself rooting for this bruise. (I don't bruise very often, so it's getting a lot of attention from me.) If it develops well, you guys met get a picture at some point. YOU'RE WELCOME.

This is wise. I say this to others, but never the actual person.

I think as a rule most people prefer to think of themselves as unique individuals, so telling them they look like someone, even if it's complimentary, is setting up a disagreement.

Protip: if you want to receive calls better and have the battery last longer, you need to clean off the excess manufacturing oil. The best way is to just lather floor cleaner or vinegar on it gently with a cloth and then rinse with cold water. Never use warm water.
